How do I get my stereo working? My battery died and now I think it needs a code, but it's not the original radio.

How do I get my stereo working? My battery died and after jumpstarting it the radio no longer works. The manual states the car has a anti theft feature which requires a 4 digit security code. I have replaced the original radio. The new system is a kenwood. how do I fix this?

Wow no symptoms. no sound sure, but in a/m f./m , cassette, or CD and or USB port (MP3) are all dead too>? and is the dial dead TOO>? 100% dead, is that it? ill assume !00%
factory radio have password codes , never aftermarket radios.
so???
ask kenwood, the answer is NO !
your operators guide (jeep) is useless for swapped in radios.

how?, is super easy and 10x on a bench.
no matter.
there is but one 1 wire for power, (on all aftermarket radios) this is a standard, RED wire, must have 12vdc, (ever use a simple voltmeter)?
if radio case and black wire is grounded. are they'
if yes the radio is DOA.

some DOA radios (10000s of models made in 40 years)
have fuses inside or in back of radio, look on back first.
if you seen nothing there, it got none.
open lid, see fuses inside,?

97 S90 Volvo with original radio per Previous owner. Radio worked before Battery replaced. Called dealer and Got code, put it in and got rpt message. Several attempts- still no Working radio! HELP...

ok rpt stands for repeat. when it says that it is the wrong code that you are putting in. you only get three trys on this. after the third time it will say off. you must wait 2 hrs with the stereo on until you can try putting a code in. you need to find the right code for that stereo.inside your manual book there should be a credit card size card that has a four digit code on it. that is your stereo code. put that in and your stereo should be up in running. good luck

Battery died replaced battery but now the radio will not turn on a 2005 Ford Focus AM/FM radio with cd player. the fuse has not been blown, if I have to replace the radio does it need to be with a ford...

Quick and free fix sir or maam. The radio locks up when the battery is removed on today's cars.I don't know who decided to start it but it is somewhat stupid...I think anyhow. All you have to do is call a Ford dealer and they will give you the code and method to unlock your stereo.Write it down because your battery may get disconnected for many other reasons than a dead battery when repaired.I am pretty sure they just need the VIN.You can put aftermarket stereos in too if you ever want to.Good luck! Radio reset

The code in the Glove box is just the serial number to the stereo, It is not the unlock code itself. Call a Honda dealer and give them this number. They should give you the code for free. They did for me.
cheers hope that helps

Radio needs a code but i dont know it

It sounds like you stereo did not retain it's memory during the battery change. Unless you have the code, or the serial number written down somewhere, you will have to remove the stereo and get the serial number off the unit to request a new one.

Stereo not working

Your stereo may have a security code that needs to be entered whenever the radio is disconnecred from the battery. It's an anti-theft device that makes the radio worthless to theives (even though nobody would steal a factory radio but, I digress...).

Have a look through all of the documentation for your van, owners manual, any additional pamphelts, etc. There may be one for the radio that should contain the reset code.

Dead Battery equals Stereo lock

You must get the 4 digit security code and enter it into the radio by pressing the AM and FM2 buttons at the same time. Then enter code via the preset buttons. Press button #1 until you get the first digit of the code then press button #2 until you get the 2nd digit and so on for the 3rd and 4th digits. when code is on the display press the AM and FM2 buttons again and radio should come back on. if it reads safe you have the wrong code #. You can get the code from a dealer for a small fee. They need to remove the radio to get a serial # on the radio chassis.
