Often, on the Escorts of this vintage, rough idle can be due to a leak in the vacuum system. With the engine running, listen closely for any tell-tale hissing sounds coming from any of the vacuum hoses. Check that they are all securely in place and the end-clamps are all tight. Also check that the PCV valve and the hose connecting it to the manifold are securely in place. Another possibility is the Idle Air Control (IAC) valve. If it is clogged or sticking, it can cause rough idle. Refer to a service manual to diagnose the IAC valve. Other things to check: make sure that the air intake is unobstructed and clean. You might consider cleaning the manifold and throttle body. Check the air filter and replace if necessary. Let me know if you have any other questions.

Put new timing belt on a 2002 ford escort 2.2 liter split port and it sounds like running on 2 cylinder

Odds are pretty good that your timing is off. Review the procedure for setting the timing wheninstalling the belt. Annoying. The upside is that you'll be really good at it after the second go round.

2000 Ford Escort zx2 runs rough and stalls in reverse

The Ford Escort ZX2, the 2.0 liter is a interference engine,The valve and the piston kissed each other as they met with a broken timing belt,Just to let you know a cam position sensor does not create rough idle, it can stall the engine at a stop sign, but the solution is a valve job, and who ever put the timing belt on after the job should have done a cylinder effeciency test.

2000 Ford Escort 2.0liter Split Port engine fuel injected, Car wont start and it backfires alot while trying to start. It will however start if I use starter fluid and it will run for awhile but th

First, I highly recommend that you stop using starter fluid. That stuff can do some pretty severe damage to your engine, engine sensors, and exhaust system...ESPECIALLY if it is backfiring while trying to start. If the engine will not start without starter fluid, there is a problem that needs to be PROPERLY diagnosed. Starter fluid is only good for making many problems worse. There are those that would disagree with this. However, this is my professional, ASE Certified Master Automobile Technician with 37 years of experience, opinion....Take it as you will.

If it is backfiring, it has to be a valve or valve timing issue. I think I would start by checking the cam timing and see if the timing belt has gotten out of time for one reason or another.

Those engines (Ford 1.8L, 1.9L and 2.0L) are also notorious for dropping exhaust valve seats, I would also recommend doing a compression test on all cylinders to see if there could be a burned valve or broken/missing valve seat.

I have a 98 ford escort 2 liter it was running great while driving it just died the engine turns has spark fuel but will not fire

did you check your timing belt? Remove the top half of the timing cover. Spin the motor over with the starter see if the camshaft turns. No turn need belt. Leave comment.

At how many miles should i change my timing belt? 2002 ford escort 2.0 liter

According to the 1997-2002 Ford Escort Manual the average replacement interval is every 60,000 Miles (96,000 Kilometers). I unfortunately procrastinated and my timing belt snapped at 109,000 Miles and I had to go to the junk yard for a new engine. I had to replace a whole engine for not replacing a $15.00 belt.

At what mileage should i replace the timing belt on 2002 escort 2.0 liter?

Timing belt problems are common with the Ford Escort, mine went, without warning, at 50,000 mi. When your ready to replace it, have the water pump replaced at the same time, it'll save you $$$ in the long run.
