SOURCE: I have a 1995 jeep wrangler rio grande with a 2.5

No..you can't downgrade, the sensors will be different . The older engine might not have knock sensor.check with a salvage yard they have cross reference books that will let you know if it's possible

1989 wrangler 2.5L won't turn off with new switch

Hi there:Bad installing or a problem with the connections. The most likely problem is a bad ignition switch. To find out for sure, remove the plastic covers over the steering column and remove the 2 screws holding the ignition switch in place. Make sure the mechanism coming from the key is turning the ignition switch. If the mechanism works fine, replace the ignition switch.

I would suggest removing the ignition switch and checking the mechanism in the column to make sure it is actually turning the ignition switch off.

You could have a wiring problem, you will have to follow all the wiring from the ignition switch down the column and into the harness, there is sure to be a short in the wiring harness, that is if as you said you replaced the ignition switch for a new one.

To test this, remove the plastics around the steering column and pull out the wiring plug to the ignition switch, if the ignition turns off you have another faulty ignition switch if it stays on wiring harness has shorted out.

Hope this helps; also keep in mind that your feedback is important and I`ll appreciate your time and consideration if you leave some testimonial comment about this answer.

Thank you for using FixYa, have a nice day.

I recently purchased a 1995 wrangler Rio Grande and the soft was replaced with a factory Mopar hard top and the soft upper doors are not a fit. They have sharp angled corners where the hard top has...

Contact Jeep and see if they have such a thing. If they dont then you will have to take it to a fabricator that can custom alter your doors for you.

95 Jeep Wrangler wont start

Listen, You need a new computer. Those are your relays clicking. There is no signal from the relays going to your computer to tell the Jeep to turn on. Cause your computer is broke. Check online for the best price. I bought mine from autozone.
