Make sure the window is up and the door is open. Then remove the inside door panel and you should be able to see how the outside handle is attached. Take care to note how the connector that actually opens the door is connected. Good chance it is broken if the handle itself is not broke.

You would need to take the pannel off to get to the internal part of the mechanism. Something has broken or come apart in the opening mechanism. I'd let it go if considering replacing.

I have a 2004 bmw x5, that the 2 rear doors wont open from the inside or the outside after replacing the door handles.

I am not familiar with this model but have experienced a similar nightmare on a very model. I suspect that the child safety locks are set which is stopping you opening the doors from the inside and the outside handles are not working because the latches may have been set in the locked position.

Nissan pathfinder problems

Check childproof lock if you can open it from the inside, but usually the connection between the handle and the lock for the outside door handle breaks.
if you can't open the door using either inside or outside door handles, go to a locksmith, auto electrician or a Nissan dealer or risk severely damaging the interior door panelling trying to do this yourself...

Can´t open the rear tail gate/door. Have tried the emergency opening option (holding down the 2 lock buttons in the car) but that didn´t work either. When pressing the rear door "handle" to open...

If you squeese the handle put your head near the badge you should hear one micro switch operating the window and a noise like well hard to explain but its a solenoid operating the rear latch after the window drops, you can get the inside panel off bit hard with door locked; at bottom of door panel is four philips screws take them out and then the panel pulls from the bottom up,cut round water shredder and you can operate latch manually to get it open then check to see if micro switch in handle is working its not a rear wiper fault or window fault as they work, the relay for the rear door latch and the rear window are behind the offside rear quarter panel 3 connectors for rear door electrics, the relays are up by the seat at top,its not normally a relay issue either rear door latch solenoid or micro switch in back handle but rule out the handle as window works.

Disconect battery and wait 5 min and try again it worked on mine.

Hope helps.

I couldn't open my back door of my car from the outside and then my sister decided to put child lock on and now I can't open it from inside or outside. With out being able to open the door to take it apart...

It sounds like it could be the plastic connecting bit that links the outside door lever to the rod that operates the door mechanism, has broken or become disconnected. To check, you will need to remove the trim on the inside of the door, after removing any screws and the inside door lever and window winder. However now that the child safety lock has been set it could be very difficult to get the door open.
All I can suggest is that you look at the other rear door to locate the position of the safety tab and then try to disengage it by using a suitable thin blade or something on your bad door so that you can again use the inside lever.

Once you have the inside trim off and the plastic sheet, you will see an access hole for the door mechanism and the outside operating handle of the door. It should be attached to the actuating rod by the aforementioned plastic bit. If plastic bit appears OK try re-attaching it or replacing it if broken. If the part of the outside handle which attaches to the rod is broken the handle will need replacing.

Rear door on offside only will not open from inside or outside all other door are OK

chances are the connecting rod has come UN-done there is a plastic clip that holds the rods in place removal of the door panel is required to ensure this ...i take it the handle is just flopping around Loosely"

unless i am misreading the question perhaps the lock is froze up and i would use some penetrating oil 1st to allow it to work a while and see if that helps otherwise removal of the door panel is required as well

could also try pushing in on the door itself while trying to open it that would indicate the striker is in need of adjustment = door is closing too tightly
