- Jack it up and place it securely on jack stands.
- Drain Differential and remove differential cover.
- Remove wheels.
- Look inside the differential where the axle end is visible. There should be a circlip that you have to remove. Then you can slide the axle out which allows you to get to the differential gears.

How do I change rear wheel bearings on my 1992 GMC Safari van

Put the rear up on jack stands and remove the wheels and brake drums. Then unbolt the rear differential cover and drain the gear oil. Then, you remove the pinion securing bolt. DO NOT ROTATE THE WHEELS AS THIS CAN CAUSE THE PINION GEARS TO FALL OUT. Push the rear axle shaft inward toward the vehicle and remove the "C" clip that secures the axle to the pinion gears. Then pull the axle shaft outward and out of the axle housing. Inspect the axle shaft for scuffing and excessive wear on the place where the wheel bearings rest. If there is excessive wear, you can use a "repair bearing", which is modified to install so it runs on an unworn part of the axle shaft. Otherwise a regular replacement bearing is fine. You need a slide hammer removal tool to extract the old bearing from the axle housing, and a bearing install tool to insert the new one without damage. Once the new bearing is in, reinsert the axle shaft, secure with the "C" clip, and pull outward to latch the "C" clip into its recess. Install the pinion bolt. Reinstall the differential cover with appropriate gasket or sealer. Fill differential with approved gear oil in the recommended amount. Ensure that if the rear is a positraction rear end there may be an additive required to the gear oil for proper operation.

Rear end is whinning in 96 chevy s-10 blazrer

Most likely your differential ring gear carrier bearings are worn and the alignment of the pinion gear to the ring gear is out of tolerance. If your truck is full time 4x4 from the factory there is also a good chance that the rear differential housing is also worn where one of the carrier bearings (left side most likely) is mounted. This is a fairly difficult repair to do at home due to the close tolerances that need to be measured to make sure the two gears mesh properly. If the differential housing is damaged then the entire rear axle should be replaced.

Rear end axle removal for a 2000 chevy truck 1500

You must remove the rear cover on the differential and then the spider gears, then the center pin bolt and the pin then push in on the axle and remove C clip retainer inside the gear carrier and slide axle out.

Need to find gear ratio on 2000 chevy blazer

If you want to find the ratio then you can remove the rear differential cover and spin the wheels by hand to turn the gears and find the number on the carrier gear. The numbers will be what you need to tell what the ratio is.

How do you remove the differintial on a 2004 chevy pick up 1500?

Get the rear wheels off of the ground, remove wheels, and drums. (Rotors if you have those)
Remove rear cover (use a drain pan to catch fluid)
Look for the 5/16" or 8mm head pin bolt and remove it.
Turn the differential so you can get the pin out. (goes through the center)
Push you axles inward and with a small magnet, take both "C" clips out from the inner part of the axles.
Now slide out you axles. (Careful on the outer seals)
Mark your carrier bearing caps so you know what is left or right, and remove them both.
Find out what size the bolt heads are for the "ring" gear and get two wrenches to fit. (Usually 19mm or 3/4")
Hold one on a bolt head on the top side and put the other wrench lower.Force the lower wrench upward, as this will push the upper wrench into the housing and "push" the differential out. When removing be aware that there are spacers that need to go back where they came from. DO NOT MIX THESE UP. These spacers are under the carrier bearing caps, left and right of the differential.
Note, four spider gears is a normal differential, requires gear oil. If it has clutch packs, it is a limited slip and requires gear oil and limited slip additive!!!
