My '04 Taurus did the same thing a while back and it was due to a baked O-Ring that seals the intake manifold runner control to the manifold. Google; Intake Manifold Runner Control O-Ring 2001 Ford Taurus. Those O-Rings are available at Ford ($11) or a Harbor Freight Tools for around $1. If you wanna cheat on the job (don't tell anyone I told you this!) just clean all around the control on the right rear of your manifold, then glop on some silicone sealer all around it where it mounts to the manifold and give it a few hours to dry.

This is a very good cause for the idle to act up. A vacuum leak some where in the engine. I know the check engine light is on. Have it checked and Google the code for more information. This person probably has the correct answer for your problem

SOURCE: stalls when put into gear

Its possible it could be other things causing the problem, but seeing as you've checked most of the likely causes, it is most likely your Torque-Converter. The lockup clutch in your Stator-Fan located inside the Torque-Converter could be siezed, causing the car to stall.

SOURCE: 2003 Ford Taurus, 90K, used car, engines shakes, ABS goes on

Are you getting any codes from the Check Engine Light? This sounds like it could have something to do with a sensor. Check your air filter and make sure it's clean. The tach on my 1999 doesn't really work, but it hasn't coincided with other driveability problems. The engine doesn't change in it's RPM's, the tachometer just stops working. Have your charging system checked. The shaking might be coming from bad fuel pump operation, clogged fuel filter, or dirty fuel injectors. Try putting an additive into your gastank to clean the injectors (a bottle of Seafoam is great for this). Try calling your local Autozone and see if they do free trouble code scanning. This might help lead you in a better direction.

Why would a 00 VW GTI not idle?

If the battery was disconnected during oil pan replacement then a idle relearn will be needed. drive car for awhile without using accessories (a/c) then return to idle shut car off 10 min then try again. If motor was lifted to remove oil pan check for broken vacuum hoses a large leak can keep engine from idling.

Car stalls when put in 'drive'

Check your air horn (big rubber boot) to the throttle body. It may have a crack on the underside and when you put it in drive and the engine torques to that side the crack opens and causes it to die.

Hello, I have a 1990 Ford F150 4.9l Auto 2wd. I have had problems with my truck running rough when i start it up. It runs ok for about 5 seconds with some miss. but then after the idol drops down to under...

sounds like an intake leak / getting to much air at low rpm . spray a (tiny amount) of tractor starter fluid near the intake base and see if the rpm speeds up if it does it's leaking you need new intake gaskets, or a hose is leaking , get a vacum guage to test it.

Engine surge during warm up.

Try changing your PCV valve make sure the hose is clean and not full of oil. Also check the elbow end that goes to the intake they tend to collapse from oil saturation. Hope this helps.
