Engine has a rough idle every time i stop for just a couple of seconds

It can be issue with IAC( idle air control valve) causing the problem.

There are many other possibilities causing these idle issues. Engine idles rough.

True of many cars. Happened to me too many times, fourin
or domestic.

I Have a couple of questions. First question does engine surge when idleing cold? 2. Does engine start quickly without a lot of cranking, Cold or warm? 3. Do you have funny smell at highway speed, or after you stop? With out this info and your imput, I would only be guessing. I am retired mechanic of 25 years. and would like to help if u need me.

Possible Idle air control, simple to change on the throttle body

idle air control is bad

I am not to sure but I know that there is a process called the "Relearn" which mainly zinchronizes the throttle body with your ECU... But I am not to sure for a ford exactly I know that for a Nissan if you getting code P0507 the relearn Process will follow as: 1. Warm up the car to normal temperature of drive it for a few minutes and turn it off. 2. After you shut off the engine wait ten seconds. 3. Turn the Key to the ON Position but don't start the car. 4. Wait 3 seconds and press the gass pedal and release 5 times in whitin 5 Seconds. 5. Give it a 7 seconds and press the gas pedal and keep it pressed for about 10-15 seconds and the engine light should star blinking for about 15-20 seconds as soon as it stops blinking start the engine let it run for about 20 seconds and rev the engine up a couple of times then you can shut it off.
But I had a couple of time in which a rebuild piece might fail to sync with the relearn process...You might need to go with a new part....Good Luck. I am kind of sure that Ford migh have a forum those sites are very helpful because of they are Ford Vehicles owners that will post their solutions to similar issues.

My quest 2004 idle below 500, start up then off, have to start couple times when the engine is cold. when i pushed the gas pedal, it smells gas.

what are the codes? Try disconnecting the battery for 1/2 hour. Then reconnect so the engine computer can relearn the strategy and the changes of parts you made. It will run rough for 10 miles or so.

hello first check your idle with the car running foot on brake see were your rpm reading is if your below 500rpm check your label underhood for your curb idle setting second see if theres a adjustment screw you can increase were your gas cable lever rest against your set screw underhood if you feel confident enough remove your iac motor idle air control valve if the bore were the end of the pintle extracts out to close has varnish builup our carbon it will stick creating vacuum leak type senario causing stalling rough idle sometimes even no start conditions good luck
