Does the shifter move? If so you may have a broken park actuating rod which requires the skills of a transmission shop to repair. If the shifter does not move then the shift cable or transmission linkage is faulty.

My 2006 impala is stuck in park and I need to know how to get it out of park to get it to the shop?

More the nlikely your brake light switch is defective or loose.
This switch also controls the release of the shifter so you cannot shift from park unless you're stepping on the brake.
The switch is located in the brake pedal up ubder the dash.

Turn the key to unlock the the system but do not start the vehicle, shift into neutral and start, you should be able to go from there.

Check or replace the switch as necessary. Be careful though as your brake lights may also not work.

2006 IMPALA, STUCK IN PARK.

There is an electric solonid to keep it from coming out of park unless brake is applied, should be able to hear it click when you step on the brake(ign. on) If you can't hear it ,check it for power, ect.
It's on the steering column ,down low under the dash

Shifter is stuck in park and my wife is in ny and im in pa. how can she get it to work

Hi,

Just had this very same problem 10 minutes ago. Stuck at a fuel bowser at a busy servo for an hour!! Road assitance fella turned up, asked me to step on the brake and, hey presto, I could shift out of park. Apparently it's a sticky brake light relay switch. Try stepping on the brake pedal a few times. Hope this helps.

2006 Chevy Impala stuck in park

When you turn ignition on it releases a cable that is attached to the shifter also the shifter has a solenoid attached to it that is released when you step on the brake. Both times that I had the problem of button stuck and cant shift out of park the solenoid was sticking and wouldnt release .
