Hey, i own a 2000 xj8 and always had it maintained and fully checked by the dearler..
my problem is that i find hard times starting the engine, it cranks but never actually starts until the second or third time and when it does a "traction system failure" or "electrical failure" warnings appear on the panel.. note that i live in the middle east were its hot (42-50 Celsius) plz advise =)
Try checking all the battery connections from the boot all the way through to the engine compartment - if there are any loose or corroded connections, this could cause low voltage to the ECU, which would cause the fault you talk about. I lived in Abu Dhabi for a while and the temperature can cause fuel vapour locks, but I don't think this is the problem in your case.
