You will have to check to see if the wiper transmission linkage has come disconnected between the motor and the linkage.

My windshield wipers moter is running but wipers not moving I got a 2002 ponniac Bonneville

If upon turning the switch, you hear either a buzzing or a noise coming from the wiper area but no movement of the windshield wipers, then it becomes likely that there is a mechanical problem. In front wiper systems, there are two moving parts, the wiper motor and the wiper transmission. In rear wiper systems with a single wiper, there’s a single moving part, the wiper motor.

If you hear a buzz, it could be a motor straining to move a jammed wiper transmission or a locked motor gear. If you hear a grind coming from the wiper area, it could be a stripped gear in either the motor, the transmission or where the wiper arm splines to the wiper motor in the rear. Don’t let the term transmission fill you with dread; it’s simply a term for a multi-lever set of arms and hinges that turn the circular motion of the wiper motor into the side to side motion of the wiper arms. It is also possible that the spline on the post of the front wiper arms is stripped.

Generally speaking, you can reach the motor and transmission by removing the wiper arms, all the screws that hold the cowl beneath the wiper arms and the weather stripping. Once exposed, you should be able to remove the motor from the transmission and check to see if the transmission is binding or if the motor is the culprit. Simply, replace the culprit, and reassemble.

If the problem is with the rear wiper system, getting to the wiper motor can be more difficult with far more trim to remove than with a front system. You may elect to consult your mechanic for help.

My windshield wipers wont work.

It Sounds Like, Either The Arms Are Loose ,If You Can Hear Something Moving Behind The Dash,
Or The Linkages Are Seized ,If The Motor Just Hums No Movement Heard,In Which Case Try Spraying Q 20 On The Linkage And Try Moving The Wiper Arms By Hand To Get It Going Again,
If Not The Motor May Just Be Burn;t Out.

MAZDA323 FAULTY WIPERS

Check the wiper arms are properly connected to the mechanism, that protrudes from the actual motor...these normaly have a tooth like system and therefor if the wiper arms are not connected properly then the wiper motor will run but the wipers wont move.....also check the wiper cross arm mechanism(located under the bonnet)as these are normaly on a push fit ball and could be worn and disengaged.

Wipers wont move but i can still hear the motor for the wipers running

Hi Judy, It would seem that the rotating arm has become detached from the wiper motor shaft. This can happen if the threads are worn on either the nut or the shaft. As it can happen when you really need them and at any time, I suggest that you have the unit replaced foer safety sake....You see, we want you around! Regards John

Wind shield wipers dont work. I can hear the motor running but the wipers wont move.. Whats wrong??

The wiper motor has an arm ( or two ) linking the motor to the wipers. These arms have plastic bushings and it is possible one or more bushings wore out and the arm (s) fell off the motor. You'll need to look at a specific repair manual for your car to see where exactly the arm ( s ) are and what is involved in replacing those bushings, as some vehicles require you to replace the arm with the bushings and others allow you to just replace the bushings.
Hope this helps!!

it sounds like the wiper transmission has broken/slipped off of the wiper motor. Remove wiper motor and check wiper transmission.

Windshield Wipers dont work and can be moved freely by hand

sounds like wipers arm is not securely attached to shaft that is attached to wiper motors. They can strip out and you can either us JB weld to put them on or get new ones or junk yard ones.

Windshield wiper failure on 98 Chevy Malibu

Hi, you wont be able to move the wipers manually as they will be locked by the motor. There is only two obvious reasons why the motor should fail again. The new motor was a poor quality replacement or there is an underlying problem on the car like the wiper motor mechanism has excessive play or is stiff/tight and over working the motor causing it to fail. you need to have a proper check over before swapping it again.

Wiper motor linkage

Flip the caps up from bottom of wiper arm to expose where they attach to pivots. There should be a nut holding them on, try snugging that nut up a bit & see what happens. if it helps, remove the nuts, pry the arms off, and clean inside where spline etc., is and re-attach arms in proper(same) spot and tighten nuts again, but be careful not to tighten too much & snap the stud.
