Common problem is that the nut holding the arm on has loosened. Right at the pivot point on the arm is a nut underneath a pop off cover. You should be able to take that off. Tap the arm down far enough to grab the post again and tighten the nut. The only thing that would stand in your way is if the arm connection or the post is stripped in which case you will have to replace the wiper arm, the wiper mechanism, or both.

I turned on my wiper when there was snow on the windshield. Now the driver side doesn't work but the passenger side wiper does work. Could it just need fuse replaced or is it the motor?

A good bet would be you most likely stripped a few of the splines located where the wiper arm mounts to the motor assembly. It's usually under a cap or lid of some sort.
If the wiper arm moves freely you could try to tighten the nut a bit more to secure it...this may work but won't solve the problem.
You'll most likely need to replace whichever part lost the most material (usually the wiper arm).
Good luck!

You mean wiper arm ? Probably broken wiper arm linkage bushing you can't see , under the cowling . Can you move the passenger wiper arm up an down without much effort ? An not the drivers side ? To see it or get at it you would need to pull wiper arms off an take cowling off to get at it . Wiper arm driver Side windshield does not move can move by hand but not when motor is on. Passenger side is fine and works it does not appear to be able to be removed very Easily

If drivers wiper arm will not move by motor operation and can be easily moved by hand ( with wiper on or off ) suspect disconnected/broken linkage. If wiper arm will not move by motor and takes effort ( With wiper on ) by hand... suspect seized wiper pivot

Wiper dodge ram

You must remove the wiper arm to make sure the serrations on both the arm and where it mounts to are not damaged. Turn on the wipers and see if the nub that the wiper arm mounts to is moving.

If it isn't, there is a mechanism called the Wiper Transmission. It is located in the cowl at the bottom of the windshield. The device has a number of arms. The arm that connects the right side to the transmission is off. This is usually the fault of a small round plastic piece at the end of the arm. Simply putting it back on is nit recommended because it will probably fall off again. This plastic piece is attainable at most good auto parts places.

Passenger Side Windshield Wiper Broken

Hi Jill,
The first thing to check is a 13mm nut that holds the wiper arm in place.See if you can move the wiper arm freely back and forth. There is a nut at the base of that wiper arm,Lift up a cover that is hiding the nut. If it comes loose from being froze from ice or snow. Put the wiper in its rest position and tighten the nut back up.

DRIVER SIDE WINDSHIELD WIPER STOPPED WORKING. DO I NEED TO REPLACE ENTIRE ARM OR COULD IT BE SOMETHING ELSE?

It could just be the bolt holding the arm on. Sometimes they vibrate loose. Does the passenger side work properly?
Can you move the driver side wiper arm across the windshield by hand?
There should be some soft of plastic cap at the pivot point of the wiper arm that can be removed to get to the bolt - so you can see if its loose.

For the last few weeks I've been tightening my 2003 impala's passenger side windshield wiper daily. It also slams onto the plastic when it reaches the bottom...what could the problems be? The driver side...

the wiper arm could need to be replaced
being loose could have have worn the hole in the wiper arm
or the splines on the wiper transmission maybe damaged
i would try a new wiper arm first
use BLUE LOCTITE on the threads and TORQUE the nut to (22 lb ft)
hope this helps

Windshield Wipers dont work and can be moved freely by hand

sounds like wipers arm is not securely attached to shaft that is attached to wiper motors. They can strip out and you can either us JB weld to put them on or get new ones or junk yard ones.

Windshield wipers

You might have a stripped wiper arm spline. Check it by seeing if it moves with your hand. Also check wiper arm connection under the black plastic unscrew and remove black plastic.

One front wiper not working on Outlander 2003

if you open the hood look towards the base of the windshield, you should see the linkages for the wiper arms. make sure the linkages are all in-tact and nothing fell off. if the linkages are all good, see if you can move the passenger side wiper with your hand, if it moves freely or with little resistance check the nut/bolt that hols it on at the end of the wiper arm. see if the nut/bolt is loose. tighten if needed. also you can remove the nut/bolt and check the splines on the wiper arm where it presses onto the stud and see if they are wiped out.
