My 1998 Isuzu Rodeo will not engage when I push the button. The 4wd light flashes continually. I have vacuum on one hose at the actuator. The vacuum unit on the fire wall will not switch states. What could be the problem.?

Its not for dry pavemen
the Part time system is for OFFROAD (dirt) or on ICE.

so what are wheels (tires) touching, we cant guess that.... ever.....
or is it TOD system..
cant guess that either.

SOURCE: 1999 isuzu rodeo 4wd not woking

I had this happen to a 1999 4x4 LS and my sisters boyfriend mentioned to periodically turn 4x4 on/off at least once a month.
What I did was go down a stretch of road slowly and attempt to turn it on/off till it became unstuck.
Drove around 10 miles on a road that was hardly used...to get the stupid light to quit flashing I had to put it in park and try to creep forward ---while using off settiing or put in park then reverse...while using the off -setting on 4x4. My patience paid off. They get sticky...you must be cautious... because there is a way to cause vibration and then it won't start...some deadman feature that I experienced once and the LWD must have slipped in a little and I had to look at everything.
Mine is an Automatic with the shift on the floor...that can get sticky too.

Good luck and hope this helps...mine had lots of growing pains but I get 23 mpg and it runs/idles better and the only gremlin left is some short in the dash which leaves the lights D/3 (one or both on)for the shift indicator on:)

4L and 4H lights flashes when you try to engage either of them in 05 Isuzu Rodeo

this is a part time 4wd, not AWD.
and as such must not be run on dry ice free pavement.
so post if car is on said pavement.
test 4wD in DIRT, does it work now, or not?
if you keep doing it on dry pavement this happens.
see here
http://www.rubicon-trail.com/4WD101/driveline-bind.html

read the wiki on all system. and see what you can do and can not.

its not AWD, and has no CENTER differentiable gears.

I have flashing 4wd light but no engagement on my 98' Trooper. I took the vacuum actuator off and tested to see if it is stuck. It wasn't. If I applied vacuum to the blue it stayed in normal position and...

You can check the continuity of the VSV assembly units you are working with (what you are referring to as blue and white).

Inspection (1) - Remove the connector, shift transfer lever to 2H and start the engine. Make sure there is continuity in the vehicle side of the harness. If there is none, check the transfer shift switch and wiring.

Inspection (2) - Inspect both VSV units as follows:
A) With battery not connected
Measure A-C for continuity, B is closed
B) With battery connected
Measure A-B for continuity, C is closed.

If either A) or B) fail, replace the VSV unit.

Slips out of gear when in 4WD

Check the oil level in the shift on the fly (sotf) part of the axle thats the left of the front one - it holds about 1 pint of gear oil and gets missed at service time .

MY 97 IZUZU R0DEO 4WD WONT ENGAGE

It is possible that the vacuum actuator that engages the 4X4 is faulty. It will have to be tested with vacuum pressure tester.
This is usually the case when 4X4 doesn't engage.
Other case is the module inside tranny is defective and may need rebuild
