You didn't specify whether you have the (4) cylinder or the (6) cylinder engine..... I have a 2004 Hyundai Sonata 2.4L 4 cylinder and I just changed the spark plugs in it. I believe that the 2005 2.4L engine is the same. To locate and change the (4) spark plugs on a 2004 Hyundai 2.4L 4 cylinder engine: Remove the (4) 12mm bolts from the decorative plastic engine cover. Remove plastic cover from engine and place it off to the side out of your way. Standing in front of the car, the (4) spark plugs are located laterally (left to right) in the recessed area underneath where the plastic engine cover was removed. Note: This engine has (2) coils....They are located above spark plugs number (2) and (3) from left to right. Starting with the fist spark plug on the left: Remove the spark plug cable by pulling straight up on the insulated connector. Using a spark plug socket, remove the old spark plug and install a new one in it's place. To access the second spark plug from the left, remove the electrical connector and the spark plug cable wire from coil number (1) and then remove the (2) 12mm bolts that secure the coil to the engine. Spark plug number (2) is located directly under the coil. Lift the coil straight up removing the insulated connector from spark plug number (2). Using a spark plug socket, remove old spark and install a new one in it's place. Repeat same procedures for spark plugs number (3) and (4). Note: If you have the (6) cylinder engine, the front (3) sparks pluge are readilly accessible but in order to access the (3) rear spark plugs, you will have to remove the intake manifold

How do you change spark plugs in a 2004 hyundia sonata

It depends on which engine is in the vehicle. The 2004 Sonata came with two possible powertrains -- the 2.4 Lit L4, and the 2.7 Lit V6.

On the 4 cylinder engine, there are two coil packs and two ignition wires, Below each coil pack is a spark plug (#2 and #4 cylinders). The wire from # 2 coil pack goes to #3 spark plug, and the wire from #4 coil pack goes to #1 spark plug.

Now the 2.7 Lit V6 requires you remove the surge tank (intake manifold) in order to access the spark plugs & wires on Bank 1 (Right Hand side of the engine).

How to change spark plugs on a Hyundai Sonata 2.7 liter V-6 ?

This is listed as a 2.6 hours operation in the labor guide, so be aware that it could take you that amount of time or substantially longer. The left side is fairly easy after you remove the spark plug wire cover. The right side is the most difficult because it requires removing the upper intake manifold which is estimated at about 2 hours alone.

PDF 2001 Hyundai Sonata spark plug change instructions

I posted this solution for this same engine on the 2001 Kia Optima. It is Exactly the same 2.5 V6, and the instructions are exactly the same. I recommend replacing the plug wires. Please see 2001 kia Optima for the rest. Good luck, it's fairly easy.

My check engine light came on after i changed the spark plugs on my 2003 Hyndai Sonata V6. now my is not running like it should. how do i reset the computer

Well you will first need to check you installation. The check engine light does not go on for no reason especially since you say the car isn't driving right. You should start by checking to make sure that there are no vacuum leaks from when you removed the intake manifold, be especially attentive to all the small hoses. The last thing on your list to check will be the spark plug wires, make sure they are well seated on the plugs.
