Turned key this morning and there was a delay, then the car started fine. Later, turned key, back to normal. Then later, turned key about 20 times and then car started. Now, 40 key turns and nothing.
Here is a check that can help diagnose the problem. Have someone hold the starter switch to the start position while someone else taps on the starter motor with a small hammer. Sometimes this will cause the starter to engage. If this works then the starter brushes are worn out or the starter needs to be replaced.
Could be the neutral safety switch if it won't crank in neutral or park, could also be the starter has failed.
