Volvo v70 57 plate - power steering has just failed whilst sat idling on drive - any clues

Obviously this could be very dangerous

Pull in to a Volvo dealer & get it checked

There could be a re call of your model if this is a known Volvo problem.
Volvo pride themselves on their Vehicle Safety.
Dealer shouldn't charge for a possible manufacturing problem

take it to a power steering specialist shop and have them check the drive belt first and the the power steering for failure

You have a failed alternator i think, have it tested.

Power steering pump may not be generating enough pressure to have power steering function.

hi.sounds like the flywheel is faulty or there is a engine mounting loose,broken or worn just check that things first.hope u get it sorted

Sounds like your fuel pump is giving up! Or maybe some bad fuel! Did you fill up before parking up or is the tank low? Maybe the pickup filter or line filter is blocked!

think you have damaged the unit ,you will need to replace it .

sounds like your power steering is failing, get it checked at a garage asap, steering is important when going fast :), probably needs steering wheel taken apart and power steering components checked for wear/damage.

To avoid foaming and get the best longevity from your power steering unit, I would use "Automatic: Volvo transmission oil 1161540-8" which is Mobil 3309. It is a synthetic and will work well.

is it leaking from anywhere, quite common o saxo's they leak from the steering rack, they have a small circular seal that go's and drips fluid out of the bottom.

It is also quite common on saxo's for the power steering pump to fail, it's the same on the peugeots, this is most likely the cause so get that checked first, you can get one off ebay for about £30 and they are fairly easy to fit.
