The remote on the key stopped working few days ago. So I have been using the key manually to open the doors, however today I can only open the passenger door but not the driver side door.

probably the FOB, just because other functions work does not mean that the lock/unlock will work. This is the most used function and the one that goes first.
A plastic clip that holds the lock linkage is probably broke or worn. You need to pull of the inner door panel to see whats going on inside. Use the remote and see whats happening. It could be bent rod in door from someone using a slim jim to unlock it when they locked the keys in it at some point. Bend the rod and try the remote again untill it works properly.
I had the same problem in my 2002 not isn't back I got a tin of wd 40 put the straw applecateter in the key hole and give it a good dose after 10 minute it open did it again now it works fine so I did them soon to make shore try it before you have to pull the door panel apart
Put light-weight oil on the key to lubricate the lock cylinder tumblers. ... Use cooking oil if nothing else available. Put the oil on the key and work the lock.
Wipe the keys when the locks start working.
The locks use "graphite" for lubrication. You can grind up pencil lead and use as a lock lubricant .... messy.
