I have a 03 Cadillac CTS. The other day after work I got in the car tried to start it up. The radio display read "anti theft / service theft system" and does not crank over. The display also said remove key. What the heck happened? My battery voltage was down to 12..unpluged battery tapped ends together and waited. 30 minutes or so later I tried to start it again it did nothing! Locked car with key manually then unlocked car got in and it started up. What the heck is going on? Drove home and parked. Turned ignition off and it wouldn't start back up with the same message about the theft system and to remove key. Left battery disconnected. The next day I reconnected the battery. It started up like nothing ever happened. I'm now afraid to drive it but I have to work but have no idea what is going on. Please help!
The vehicle is having problems reading the tiny metal security slug in the ignition key. When you used a key to unlock the door, you disabled the security system so it started. There are a variety of different resistance values on the slugs in the key. You can have someone with a ohm meter read the resistance of yours and install a fixed resistor of the same identical value to the wiring for the key security system. You may alternatively spray contact cleaner or a bit of WD-40 in the ignition switch to clean it off. Insert and remove the key several times, wiping it off each time you remove it.
So this can happen again? I am not sure if this is the original keybor not can i get a new one will it have to be re programed? I called the dealer they just confussed me more. There isnt a check engline light or any codes coming up how safe is it to be drving? I just dont want to get stranded anywhere!

Is my issue the key or in the ignition switch or column?

I Have A Seville 1990, When That Happen To Me I Got The Inginion
Replaced Problem Solved. What Is Happening Is Your Key Has A Chip And That Chip Is A Resister And When The Valve Is Not Sented To The Computer It Disengages the Fuel Pump And Than Tells You To Wait. Soon All That Will Happen Is You Will Get The Wait 3 Mins And It Will Never Start, A Good Locksmith Can Take Care Of This For You And That Will Save You Some Money. Cause If You Go To The Dealer Ouch They Will Hit You Up. But I Asure This Is How It Will Happen Cause It Is How It Happen To Me
And Sorry There Is No By Passing The Computer
