Engine starts and stays running until the key is released to disengage the starter.I tried a new pcm box and it didn't help. Changed fuel filter, idle position sensor, map sensor, coil, crankshaft position sensor, camshaft position sensor.
SOURCE: New fuel pump but no gas to the fuel rail
When I first posted, I did not read "comments" after reading what you have done and our results, it seems as though the engine control system "thinks" the engine is running when it is not. I don't believe this is a key switch problem, otherwise if you turned the key to "on" it would flood the engine. Therefore there is a strong possibility that the engine control unit is staying "hot" even when shut down, permitting the pump relay &injectors to receive trigger signals .BUT, I would also take a look at the pressure regulator on the fuel rail. flow through there may be causing the pump to stay on if too much fuel is being bypassed. And, again...did you check codes???

SOURCE: 1998 Jeep grand Cheroke hard cranking, sputtering, rough idling
In READING what you wrote, it appears that your car is difficult to start and pretty much is rough while running....It also appears that your are randomly replacing parts...How did you verify that the parts your have replaced had failed? I suggest you get a basic manual like chiltons or haynes as well as a decent digital volt/ohmeter, then do some testing. Pay close attention to map sensor test and manifold air temp. Having a good fuel pump does not insure that your injectors are clean enough to deliver a good spray pattern This will not show up on any test...you need to actually look at them. There are other items to look at but I think you will likely find your problem in what i mentioned. (you already checked for vacuum leaks, right?)
Good luck!

You need to put the harmonic balance for the 96 jeep on this motor, then put the crankshaft sensor on for the 96 jeep on the vehicle, this should fix you up.The crankshaft sensor and the harmonic balance have to go together. If I can be further help, let me know.>>[email protected]
