I have a 2002 Chevy Trailblazer. The tail light does not work een after replacing bulb. I called dealership and the recalled tail light was already fixed. They said that it wasn't a fuse because the brake light and turn signal still work. Does any one have any ideas on what may be the problem?

The tail light fuse is under the rear seat on the drivers side.

If the brake lights come on with the taillights, its probably a short in one of the tail lamp sockets.

Sounds like a problem in the wiring harness.

did you check the VEH STOP fuse? #34, 15 amps, in the rear fuse block, under the left rear seat.

I would start by trying another bulb. Even though the brake and tail light share the same bulb they actually are powering different filaments inside of the bulb so you can have a tail light filament that is working fine and illuminating properly but have a burned out brake light element that won't work at all...all inside the same bulb. Not uncommon at all to see this problem and these bulbs are pretty inexpensive.

Check your relay and switch.

There is a recall on the tail lights from GM. The problem I found on mine were faulty contacts that would burn out the bulb contacts in short order after replacing the bulbs. So even if you replace the bulbs they will only work for a short while before they burn out. Take it to a GM dealer to get the complete tail light assemblies replaced.

Took my Trailblazer to dealership. They replaced both rear tail light socket boards (these are plastic parts that house all of the rear lamps/bulbs and attach to tail light housing) They advised the sockets in the boards have a tendency to go bad. Everything works just fine. Cost of each part was approximately $29.00. Easy to replace yourself and save the labor.

I just had the same problem. I took the cover off, saw the white bulb base, twisted it to take it out, but it popped back inside the door. I got it out, but it wouldn't pull through, so I twisted it back in place and went to Autozone to get new bulb. Once I saw the new bulb, it was obvious, just the bulb itself pulls out. There's so little room to work, I couldn't get it with just my fingers - - maybe rubber gloves would have worked, but I used pliers, lightly, wiggled it a little and it popped right out. I had a similar issue once with the taillight bulb and had to break the bulb and then grip the remaining filament wires with pliers to get it out, so that was my backup plan, just in case.

Just pull bulbs straight out be careful not to beak bulb
