First find cause, no stated symptoms, is park lock out engaged?
the cable is just that a cable with 2 ends and clamps
like all cables (you name it, even a bicycle )
1 gain access to both ends
2: remove both ends clips
3: remove any clamps.
4: cable falls out.

the only hard part is the gain access deal.
the fsm cover this. ever seen a real factory service manual.
or 2nd gets. just read it.

2005 dodge won't move in any gear. The shifter moves the shift arm so I know the shift cable is good. The car runs great but won't move. When you change the gears the RPM of the vehicle does change

If you're finding it difficult to service/repair your car, get one of those online manuals. You'll not have to wait for others to answer, or rely on mechanics and all.
Plus i know a website that has very good manuals online,

without expiry i.e. for lifetime.

I have a honda odyssey with the code po780, when I reset the code at a full stop in gear and take off it rides fine until it has to change to second gear. When this happens it shifts with a violent clunk...

im no expert on trannies but it sounds like synchros. That code is shift malfunction, which im sure you already know. Id also check the shift cable.

Well i got a 1994 mercury sable i checked the transmission fluid and it was fine but didnt know that the car engine had to be hot before checking the transmission fluid. i drove about 80-100 miles then...

If you have topped up the fluid whilst hot and it still has this problem then you have a gearbox fault hence the check light. It seems suspicious to me that the last owner told you the light was nothing. Some gearboxes have a filter you can change out which can solve gear changing faults.

the shifter cable may have worked loose or broken. do you feel the same resistance that you used to when shifting? or just a very loose floppy shifter,if so,i suggest a broken or loose shifter cable.thank you for choosing fixya.com and by the way no relay will keep your shifter from shifting gears from park to drive, reverse.

I have a 1994 chevy s-10 pickup. Its a stick shift and it wouldnt let me shift gears. I can change gears when to truck is off but when i try to start it while its in gear it wont start. I dont even know...

Start by checking the Clutch. You can shift gears when the motor is off because there is nothing moving but when the engine is on you have to have the clutch to get things to meld right or you will damage your vehicle. if it's not the clutch assembly it's going to be the transmission. The neutral safety switch will keep it from starting if the truck is in gear and the clutch isn't engaging.
