2KD Engine running suddly cuts off ,cranking but can't start

no year truck told or VIN
ask shop this. they have ears we don't
pinging from fuel pump timing way off. (adanced)
or far far worse.
see blow up diagram of the engine see all those parts there 100+, any can make noise if bad.
ask a live tech to check out, and not the blind and deaf.

tbe starter motor is key crank started ,never kicked, like old motorcycles.
we can not guess year car. nor country or but yes

first off, how to start a car.

1. head lamps and dash blower not dead or weak.
2. turn key to Start, and crank the starter motor of engine.
3. if starter is dead, or clicks/chatters, the battery is dead
4. if battery is dead we jumper cable start the engine,
5. do not connect cables backwards or BOOM. $$$$
6. if starter is dead still, shift to Neutral from DRIVE PRNDL
7. if that works the PRNDL switch is bad, (park side only)
8. if manual transmission (not told) the bad clutch pedal switch will in fact defeat the starter motor from turning at all.
9. if starter does spin and crank say so and if engine stalls in 1 to 10 seconds the IMMO lamp glowing is the cause.

tell what the starter motor does first.??? not told.
just vague kik thing.
the starter goes GRRRRRGGGRRR real loud and crank shaft on the engine spins real fast even 300RPM fast and then engine starts.
my jeep I can start 3 ways

• normal. (key to ST position)
• push started,key on, or
• or hill gravity started it is a wonderful manual gear box.

manual boxes are prime grade options.

vary old 1991 down under Diesel. engine no size engine told.

now my answer based on no engine told
HL are 2nd problem. if battery is good and alternator good
and battery reads 13.3vdc to 15vdc at idle if not ALT is bad.
but you'd know that driving 1 hour or more, it would stall. (maybe)
first off the glow plugs must all be good or cold starter will fail or be horrible in some way.
2nd great fact is runs great engine hot. see that is important too know.
bad wring for HL, the starter motor will fill if batteries are weak
fail hard. that.
so you have power it cranks and if HL fail HL are bad, wiring?
got DRL down under ? daylight running lamps. hope not they stink..
or the main fuse box under hood (bay) the box has rusted fuse terminals, seen many here, 1990 cars. rusted bad.
CALLED BAD WIRING.
this bad in this spot effects all 12vdc power to all things in car.
the fuses are huge 50amps or 100amp or more.
so the answer is get the trucks serviced
a real shop that knows electrics and diesels both.
tell them what said, and they will find it, even just looking .

and a glow plug test. for sure.

What is year--make--model? Make sure battery has a full charge and battery connections all good. If it cranks good but won't start, have a helper crank it while you check for spark at the plugs, gasoline engine. Use a gage and check proper fuel pressure, check fuel injector pulse. what was the code number? If a code points at a particular sensor, I check sensor wiring circuits before replacing anything.
those are the basic checks, in my opinion. good luck
