Changing thermostat on 08 equinox - 2008 Chevrolet Equinox

Do the cooling fans come on ? Your vehicle should have two fans controlled by The PCM - engine computer energizing three different relay's for low and high speed .

Head gasket

Low or poor heat usually means your thermostat is stuck open. To check with a cold engine, remove the rad cap and start the engine look inside there should be no water flow, if its flowing the stat is open.

please check heater control valve or blower control module.if no sign of any fuses blown

One should be around the thermostat and one (if you have one) on the radiator

Your electric fan is not coming on.Check fuses and relay for fan.

Hello: Before you replace the thermostat, check the temperature door (air mix door) actuator. Make sure it is working. It should be on the passenger side of the heater case under the dash. Make sure the linkage moves when you move temperature selector on dash from hot to cold.

You can buy a flush kit from your local auto supply store to add to your cooling system for this and future flushing. As for changing your thermostat - simply remove the thermostat housing - remove the old thermostat - replace with new (be sure it is the one rated for the season at hand) - replace gaskets (or use RTV gasket maker) and reinstall housing. Fill the system with proper % ratio of coolant to water (usually 50/50). Drive away happy.:) PS You can find your thermostat housing by following the top rad hose from the rad back to it at the intake manifold.

thermostats are cheap usually under $20 and most of the time very easy to install
