if the 6 volts is not steady it can be the earthing, or a bad connection on the relay. if the relay is getting hot then replace this as this can be a problem when the relay is warn. clean all the earthing points and wires. this will improve the the electric flow. also if you don't have one fit a ***** strip wire from the body shell to the engine, this can improve alternator voltage, meaning better charge to the battery.
check the ballast resistor near the coil. white thing with wires...
run a wire from the +battery to the +coil and test (no more than 30 seconds) if it works, replace the ballast resistor. ballast should have 12v on one side and 7v on the other side with the ignition on.
check all of your fuses and wiring. i had the same prob with my 80 cj7 after checking all the simple things i just went ahead and rewired all the electrical and everything works fine now.
What the dealer told you sounds strange but the only thing I can think of that might do that is if the flex plate (flywheel) was put in backwards, if it has an off-set (like a wheel and tire assembly) it may be too close to the starter gear. BUT that still does not tell me why it wasn't doing it all the time. It is weird problems like yours that make me wish I could go there and actually see it.I hope after the shop finishes it works out well!!!
Start with the basics...meaning check the spark plug wires and spark plugs. While under the hood, inspect all hoses for a vacuum leak(s). Then turn the ignition key on-off-on-off- on...leave in the on position and write down the number of flashes the check engine light indicates....2 flashes = #2....pause.....3 flashes = #3.
Let start from here. Are you able to perform engine repairs or diagnostics???
I have a book with the whole electrical, haynes repair manual has the diagrams . 1987 thru 2003.I have 1987 wrangler with some issues. How would I get you infobook 50030
If you want to rewire the vehicle, assuming that you will not be changing any systems, you can usually find complete new wiring harnesses from both the dealer and from aftermarket selllers like Quadratec and JC Witney. Buying the complete wiring harnesses will be alot cheaper and less time consuming than trying to make them yourself. These wire assemblies are just a plug and play deal, you disconnect a harness and replace it with the new one. They may even include some instructions. If you need further assistance with custom wiring or diagnosis, I would recommend getting the service manual for the vehicle from the dealer or used ones from eBay ($30- $100). The factory service manuals have complete wiring diagrams and schematics as well as full diagnostic information. These service manuals are NOT like the ones found at your local parts store (Chilton or Haynes). The factory service manuals are like complete blueprints for a car.
is this a manuel or automatic transmission? if its automatic try forcing the shift lever forward while trying to start, if its a manuel check the clutch pedal switch , if no luck with those check to see if the ignition switch is giving 12volts in the start position, if not then just put a momentary contact push button on the dash and put key on power to one side of the button and the other side to the small wire on the starter then you have yourself a push button start with the key on only so there are no accidents, please rate -jeff
I am looking for a wiring diagrapm for a 1989 Jeep Wrangler. I have a wire that is running to the alternator with an Orange and red wire that are not hooked up to anything and I cannot find a place for them. It is a single pin connector.
Thanks
