If you have the passcode, then remove the battery terminal and wait for five minutes. Reinstall the terminal and reinsert the passcode. Make sure the car is outside of any buildings and this may intefere with the gps.
I have the same problem like your but i checked on toyota forum saw that an engineer was solved the problem. He said the vibration impact from the car and poorly well on the circuit board which cause the problem. here how he does it. 1. Remove the gps system from the car. take off the four screws which holding the gps screen. 2. Open and remove the circuit board. Next try to resolder all the pins on the circuit board then reassembled. you can do it your self or give the circuit board to a technician to do it for you.
I don't know if it work yet but i will try on my car. Good luck for you and me.
Note: this guy claim that he already fixed 3-4 with 100% successful. You can go to toyota owner club to check it out.

On my '06 Navigator the navigation dvd goes in a slot on the console to the left of the passenger's feet. There's a removable panel.
On a side note... does anyone have a newer dvd for Canada? The one that came with my vehicle is compile for the Quebec (*gasp*) market and is outdated.
