Weird noise out of front end when turning. sounds like it is right at the firewall, and not a shock tower.

Sounds like the steering coupling. Check for a boot at the base of the steering column. If you can pull back the boot, have someone turn the steering wheel while you watch the little "knuckle" It may **** of just bump. *****Always set your parking brake first**********
If you can't see a boot on the inside, it may be outside, under the hood or you may have to put the vehicle on ramps to crawl under and check it out. The knuckle could be loose, or it could be a steering box problem. (I just recently changed one on a honda Accord.) Does the steering lock up when you turn sometimes? if so, I would have the steering gear box checked out.

When I back out of my driveway turning the steering wheel left, I hear a clunk or thud that seems to be coming from the right back area as I'm straightening out. I'm concerened that this may be a...

I would get a second opinion to compare physical inspection results. The wheel bearing is most urgent, as are control arm bushings.

Sound can transmit from one end of the car to the other, but the noise was heard in the rear and the balljoints are in the front.

The sway bar and its' bushings can make a noise. You will get body lean on turns with worn components, and some rear drive models have links which can break and detach.

You need to identify the Car Brand and model so the Experts know what you may have for components.

As you may have noticed, I have not said much about shocks. If you have shocks and not struts, there are different priorities. If either is leaking, the priority increases. Some strut towers have a bearing ring and when worn out, can be a safety issue. Shocks fit inside control arms and do not have a bearing ring. Rear suspensions vary, some use control arms on multilink types, others use a rear axle with springs.

But get the wheel bearing fixed. Have tierod ends checked. The guy under the car will have a better idea of its physical condition than what we can tell online.

Clunking in the frount

A clunking sound in the front is very often the CV joints. This should be more obvious in a slow tight turn. If it is not the CV and is more noticeable on rough roads it could be any one if the suspension joints.

I replaced hub on front axel but the noise is

It sounds like it is a front end suspension problem. The following should be checked: upper and lower ball joints, the sway bars links, and even the shocks. Replace what is problematic, and your front-end noise should disappear, if it is a front suspension problem. Hopefully, this will FixYa problem!

It may not be your shocks at all. It could be the bearings in one of your CV joints. If you hear the sound when you are turning then that's your problem. Open the windows and drive at a slow speed while making turns. Listen to what side the noise is coming from and replace that CV arm.

Knocking noise

The CV joints may have gone bad and needs to be replaced, the other thing that would cause a knocking noise is a worn out shock bushing as the wheel goes up and down there is play on the shock to the shock towers from worn out bushings. Recap, check the CV Joints for excessive play and the front shocks. You can buy shock bushings but most likely your going to need to replace the shocks if they have been in that long that the bushings are worn. Good luck and hope this helps.

Creaking noise in front end 1997 explorer

Sounds like it is your CV axles.  Turn the wheel one direction, right or left, and check just behind the wheels to see if your CV boot is cracked or ripped (the boot is a black, rubber accordion looking thing).  If it is cracked or ripped, I would say that is definitely the problem.
