There are three posts on the starter solenoid. Two large ones, and one small one. One of the large ones has a braided wire going into the starter. leave this one alone. On the other large ones, you will connect the positive battery cable as well as the large red wire coming from the alternator. The small purple wire connects to the small post on the solenoid. Lastly, on the engine block pointing the opposite way (towards the drivers side) is another stud and you will connect the negative battery cable to it.
Make sure that none of the wires can touch the other posts coming out of the solenoid.

You blew some fuses

There is a good chance that you have blown either a main fuse, fusible link or possibly an ignition component. Is it a diesel or petrol vehicle? Does the engine crank over or not?

the large stud:three eights copper: is the one that the battery cable goes on. the small post 'This ford has just the one' is where the signal wire goes. If you have other smaller gauge wires that have a large ring terminal they go on the lartge lug too. Hooking up your battery. positive cable on positive terminal first. tighten it up. place negative cable on negative terminal. if you get large amounts of sparks check your cabling for chafeing or dead shorts. you may get a small spark if you have a hood light on or assesory. good luck

Extra Wire !

Small wire coming out of the neg terminal at the battery?

Usually goes to a sheet metal screw & fastened to the radiator
support sheet metal or over to the fender lip

Look over a couple similar vehicles on your lunch break

the red wire goes to positive terminal, the wire from starter-+ POSITIVE. black wire goes to negative on terminal - NEGATIVE. from ground to battery. have a good one !

First thing unhook positive battery cable, unhook main cable on starter selanoid and small wire on selanoid (there may be 2 small wires) There may be a bracket on front of starter that has to be removed, and then the 2 main bolts that hold it to engine block and it should come out.

The positive cable from the battery goes to the starter, the negative cable goes to either the frame or the block
