1 Set the emergency brake.
2 Insert key into the ignition and turn the ignition switch to the "ON" or "RUN" position. It is not necessary to start the engine.
3 Locate the shift lock override slot located on the shifter console near the shifter lever. Normally, the slot is plugged with a small plastic cap. Remove the cap.
4 Insert a small screwdriver, nail file, key or similarly shaped object into the override slot, push down and hold
5 While continuing to hold down the shift override mechanism, depress the brake pedal.
6 Now, grasp the shifter, push in the release button located on the shifter as you normally do and then move the shifter to the desired gear. If you've completed these steps with the engine off, move the shifter to the Neutral position to start the engine.

This is very common problem and most vehicle holders usually face this. But most people don't decide what should be done in this condition? Here are some suggestions about the key stuck problems for them.
This situation might be occurred due to problem in shifter mechanism which means that your shift interlock is out of order.
Sometime you try to move your key in the ignition and feel panic when it stuck in the ignition. You try again and again but couldn't get success to recognize what the matter is. Because your key stuck due to a pressure in steering column, when you do this, the pressure would be released and after a clicking sound your key will be released

The most common problem which we usually face is old and defective cars are: when we enter the key to start the car's engine, it makes effort to move the key again and again. It starts but after getting some effort this situation also occurs in switching off the engine. The cause of this problem is wire or button loosing. Wires and buttons are fitted in car's ignition and when enter the key; it does not reach at the place where it presses the button or connect the wires. Hi Beth usually when shifter is stuck there is a locking mechanism and keeps shifter from engaging unless brake is depressed to release the lock. If you hear a clicking sound when pedal is depressed then switch is probably ok and its probably the steering wheel lock. First try with your spare key to start the vehicle(old key may be worn ). If that doesn't do it then try with WD 40 a very little in ignition key hole or on the key work it slowly and see what happens. If none of these suggestions work its probably the steering wheel lock and that requires surgery. Keep me post best of luck
1,.Make sure your key is inserted all the way into your ignition switch. It if is not, you will not be able to move the shifter. Make sure it is all the way in by turning it to the "Run" position and waiting for the engine to engage. 2. Press the brake pedal after you start your car and before you try to move your shifter. Most cars do not allow you to move the shifter if you are not pressing the brake pedal. 3. Clean the panels around the shifter. Often these can accumulate dirt or sticky debris that can prevent you from shifting into gear. 4. Remove the console cover over the shifter by unscrewing the corners and popping it off. You can then make sure there is nothing underneath preventing you from shifting. 5. Press the override button at the base of the shifter if it is not working properly.
sounds like the brake shift interlock is not working. you need to press down on the brake to be able to move the shifter out of park. if that system is defective, it wont let you shift out of park. look at the center console 9if it has one) is there a slot that looks like you could slide your ignition key into? if there is try inserting your key into this slot and with your foot on the brake move the shifter into neutral. put the key in the ignition and it should now be able to start and shift into drive and reverse. but if you go back to park it will lock up again. i would bring it to the garage for a repair of this system (may need adjusting, may need replacing, but they would be able to diagnose and repair)
You need to have the dealer check the inter lock solenoid on the shifter cable, It is powered by the ignition and brake light switch, pushing the brake releases the solenoid and allows you to move shifter.
Hello.
What sounds like happened, is that the ignition is not reading that the key is in there, but its still reading that the ignition is on. Try replacing the ignition, you may have jammed some tumblers in there needs a replacement. If that dont work, then there is something wrong with the electronic ignition. But that dont sound like whats wrong since the steering wheels is not locked and you can move the shifter back and forth. I think its a bad ignition. Hope this helps!

I'm assuming that the key is removed from the ignition and it's still chiming.. Take some lock lube spray and spray a bit in your ignition key slot. Then take the key and insert it in and out a few times. This may release a stuck contact in the ign. switch. The chime will also sound if the lights are left on...worth a check too. These are cheap fix/checks...hope they help. k
Your door switch is out of adjustment or is just going bad. Even if your interior lights turn off when you shut the door, the switch is still out of adjustment or just going bad. take it to the dealer and have them look at it. they should be able to solve the problem for $20.00 or maybe even for free if you have them do other work like an oil change.
could it be the Neutral Safety Switch?
