2004 trailblazer will not engage into 4 wheel drive but will work in reverse.

Vacume lines or vacume switch on transfer case,or vacume pod to front axle.

SOURCE: Can't engage 4X4 wheel drive or disengaging

Replace evry vacuum line that has any thing to do with the 4 wheel drive. Worked 4 me

There is a vacuum actuator mounted on the front differential that locks the shafts to engage four wheel drive.

The torque spec is 103ft lbs. Most axle nuts on 4wd are around 100lbs, I have worked on cars for a while, so I usually tighten it down "wrist" tight, and give it a 1/4 turn. Always ends up being between 90-105lbs. Thanks.
