Question about 1996 Audi A6
That happened to me once... It took a little time but I got the key out and I had to change the ignition switch. The switch is $35 dollars. You can change it yourself. just take the metering console off and you can change this switch easily :)

I would try WD-40, spraying down beside the key with a spray nozzle on the end before I took it to a repair shop or pulled the steering wheel.

I have 96 Audi A6 too. It's the problem of heart of ignition. It won't go back to the original position so your key will not be able to pull out. I had this problem before. I have to bring the car back to dealer to change the switch. It costs about $300. This is after about 5 years of the new car. The replacement lasts about another 5 years. My key got stuck again. I had to change it 2nd time. It is good so far.
