Put vehicle in park. Turn key counterclockwise until it won't turn any longer, shutting car off. Get out of vehicle and push back on car hard. This rolling of the car will make the key turn that final amount to get key out.

That happened to me once... It took a little time but I got the key out and I had to change the ignition switch. The switch is $35 dollars. You can change it yourself. just take the metering console off and you can change this switch easily :)

I would try WD-40, spraying down beside the key with a spray nozzle on the end before I took it to a repair shop or pulled the steering wheel.

I have 96 Audi A6 too. It's the problem of heart of ignition. It won't go back to the original position so your key will not be able to pull out. I had this problem before. I have to bring the car back to dealer to change the switch. It costs about $300. This is after about 5 years of the new car. The replacement lasts about another 5 years. My key got stuck again. I had to change it 2nd time. It is good so far.

My Audi A6 auto-locks itself while running with the keys inside. This happens repeatedly when I use the 'Start' button to start (i.e. proximity key) and then step out to brush off snow, move something in...

some markets have passenger compartment locking, when you start the cars engine the car will lock,(timed delay) some have a movement sensor which locks the car when in motion,vw/audi sell worldwide, so you have something that is in the handbook for the english speaking world.but not perhaps for where you are.hence your dealer may not know anything about/or be in your in germany lock with movement sensor/unlock in accident situation.
they have no reason to set system so that it remains open when not is an anti theft device/stops people opening your doors when at lights....

05 audi a4 car running and doors have locked while cars is stopped with no one in car how do we open? no spare key

This happens in my A6 ALL THE TIME. I start my car with the Start button and step out (to brush off snow, etc) and-bang-my car auto-locks itself with the keys, phone, everything inside. So I am STUCK! Audi can't solve so they cut a custom key that unlocks the door but doesn't start the car and 'hid' it for me so I could at least recover from this DANGEROUS problem. Terrible that they cannot solve this.

Audi A6 Anti Theft Central Locking Tantrums

Sounds like you are having problems with your built-in alarm system. Like most systems in your Audi, you can read the error codes stored in the controllers. It takes a tool normally only a dealer has (VW or Audi) or an adapter like the VAG Com. (Google it)

I also think you can disable the alarm system and just use the key.

Could the lock button on your remote be stuck? Use a different key/remote. (leaving the suspect key at home.) The keys/remotes can be taken apart....

2002 Audi A6 - locks itself.

A lot of modern cars do this, i don't think there is a fault, i think it is a security measure, my Mercedes does it all the time. Just don't leave your keys in when you get out of the car.

Starter is turnig but not firing

Starter switch. Plastic and cheap, my 98 A6 did the same thing... I replaced thousands in parts, turned out to be a cracked ignition switch which is a very common Audi problem!
