Could be IAC stuck, injectors leaking, coolant temp sensor bad, throttle body blade sticking, hose leak between MAF and throttle body, bad cat converter. Any codes set?

SOURCE: volvo s80 alarm

Have the codes read out for the vehicle. It is likely that the siren for the alarm is causing the false alarm. If the siren is bad, there will be a code set in the central electrical module. (CEM)

SOURCE: how to reset service message on volvo s80?

2002-2007 All Volvo Models

  • The service reminder indicator lamp illuminates for 120 seconds when the ignition is first switched on
  • Insert key and turn Ignition Switch to position I
  • Press and hold in the reset button for the trip odometer
  • Turn the Ignition switch to position II (within 2 seconds)
  • Hold the reset button for the trip meter pressed in until the original trip counter value blinks and is redisplayed
(For all vehicles 2003- a general yellow lamp will light when the reset button must be released.)
  • Release the reset button for the trip odometer within 4 seconds. The instrument gives an audible signal when resetting has succeeded
  • If the trip meter is already reset the reset button should be held in for a minimum of 10 seconds and a maximum of 14 seconds.
  • If the reset button for the trip odometer is not released within 4 seconds, the service reminder indicator (SRI) is not reset.

VOLVO S80 2000,MY CAR DRIVE'S FINE BUT CUTS OUT AT ROAD JUNCTION'S AND TRAFFIC LIGHTS, CAN ANYONE HELP, THANKS.PS the car has a manual gearbox.

This is just a TOTAL STAB... in the bewilderness...
because you really gave very little INFORMATION...

Hello Jill Dunkley...

If and ONLY if...
your car has an AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION...

THERE IS A CONDITION where the Fi (fuel injection)
will develop a problem with the COLD-START circuit
(mimics a choke on new cars)... will cause the
IDLE to climb... and heavy shift when put into drive.

Won't pose much of a problem while the vehicle is cold...
but as the vehicle WARMs up...

The RPMs are high enough to reach the "LOCK-UP"
speed of the torque-converter.

With your foot on the brake it will cause the car to stall
as sure as a MISHANDLED CLUTCH under the foot of
rookie driver...

SOLUTION:
Get the vehicle diagnosed...
Fix the COLD START issue to REDUCE THE IDLE SPEED.

Drive safely.

2001 volvo s80 rough ideal below 40 mph especially when the ac is on. Also if i press the throttle while in park or in drive at low speed the ideal gets rough (pulsates and often stalls).

SOUND IDLE AIR CONTROL VALVE NOT WORKING PROPERLY.IT SHOULD STEP UP IDLING WHEN YOU TURN ON THE AC TO KEEP ENGINE FROM STALLING OUT.

Oil light on @ idle

its a high mileage engine.
all you need to do is use a thicker oil and the light will go out at idle speeds.

use a 50w sae valvoline racing oil.
plus stp oil treatment.

do that and that light is all gone.
