I have a 1994 nissan 2.4L pickup.I am currently in the process of changing the timing chain, cam gear and crank gear. In this process I noticed that the keyway on the crank gear is not in the up posit

Base timing position for the crank and cam on a Nissan is when the keyway on the cam gear is facing up and the keyway on crank gear is facing up.Must have disturbed the engine when removing the harmonic balancer?

The KA24E must have both facing up with the cylinder #1 at top dead center on the compression stroke. I can only assume that the crank spun while trying to get the harmonic balancer off. Otherwise is the mark on the crank pointed down ( cyl #1 off of tdv)?

Same happened to me. Economic way to ensure its at tdc is to remove #1 plug, using a thin dowel rod mark the distance it travels inside spark plug hole. Turn crankshaft slightly until you can measure the #1 piston is at its highest position. You'll be at tdc.

SOURCE: CRANK SHAFT POSITION SENSOR 20002 NISSAN ALTIMA

1st, Nissan had a recall on Crank position sensors for 2002-2006 Altima's. Check with you dealer before you go doing any repairs. You may discover you can get your car repaired at no charge.
NHTSA Campaign ID number :O7V527000
Symptom: Erratic behavior. Stalling and no starts and very difficult to diagnose due to the time frame in which the component actually malfunctions. The warranty should not be limited to the original owner.
I would also need more specifics as to which engine you have so I might assist you in where the location of the sensor is. The Altima had a 4 and a 6 cyl engine offered that year.

SOURCE: 1995 nissan pickup throttle position sensor

ok on a 2.4l on the black/green and white wires use ohm meter and there is no specific spec for that engine just make sure the the resistance changes and there is no dead spots. for the 3.0l black and white wires specs are 1.0-9.0k ohms im guessing the specs are the same either engine. close to full open

The 2.4 liter engine has a timing chain.

Testimonial: "Thank you very much! I consider myself very fortunate to have 300,000+ miles on the truck without changing the chain!"

1994 nissan pu starter drags when engine is warm, new starter, new battery. new timing chain & gear, valve job, head gasket

1. Make sure all the high-current battery and starter connections are clean and shiny. Don't just wipe them off; get one of those battery terminal cleaners that scrapes off the top layer of oxidation. Use a wire brush on connections the battery cleaner doesn't fit. Remove each connection, clean it and put it back.

2. Be sure the timing is set correctly.

3. If there was a heat shield on the starter, make sure it's still there.

4. Get the starting system checked at an auto parts store. Maybe you got a bad battery or starter.

Ho to put timing chain on a 1953 plymouth, can not get chain on

IF you have a cam gear that is directly chained to the crank shaft gear then both gears have to be put on together as there is no adjustment and the chain will be tight when assembled.

How do you set the timing on a 94 Nissan Sentra?

There is 3 marks on the timing chain, 2 are exactly 16 links apart and the other is 22 from either of the 2. The engine should be at top dead center. Line the 2 (16 apart) marks with marks on your cam gears and the 3rd with your crank gear. Torque cam bearings to 100 inch lbs.

1997 nissan pickup 4wd, just had timing chain replaced , now have noticeable knocking noise coming from valve cover ? mechanic says need new stack shims on valve rockers ?

Not likely. You have a 4 cyl engine with over head cam. It has hydrolic lifters. If it wasn't making the noise before he replaced the chain, then its something he did...or didn't do. If it was making the noise before, most common reason would be 1 or more lifters not pumping up. If you have a six cyl, no one changed the timing chain, (It doesn't have one!) The 3.0 6cyl has a belt.

Point tha chain timer altima 94

if you mean the timing chain then on your crank gear and your cam gear there will be a mark on each sometimes they look like a dot the dots need to look like this for perfect timing ( . . ) this will be there closest position. Your crank turns once all the way around (360 degree) and your cam gear will do two complete revolutions to the one of the crank gear. so when you set your marks as above when you turn the crank one half turn the mark on the crank gear will be at the bottom and at the same time your cam gear will have made one complete revolution, so when you turn the crank another half turn your cam would have turned again a complete revolution and the two marks should be at their closet point again.
