My 2000 camaro 3.8 has a random surge during acceleration when the Asr is turned on. If I turn the asr off the problem does not occur. I was mid surge and I pushed the switch to off and it immediately accelerated normally. I have a habit of always turning it off and it hasn't happened again with Asr off.
ASR is your traction control, the reason why you have a surge is that the ASR is calculating how much force to give to each tire based on sensor data, and this takes time. When you turn it off, the acceleration is treated like any other car with out traction control. The 2000-2003 Camaro had one big complaint, a laggy traction control. You could potentially fix this by replacing the computer unit with a faster aftermarket model and changing sensors out with more efficient models, also tuning the engine can help reduce lag time or acceleration delay.
