I have bought new battery-new alternator.seems like the car is running off of battery.
Check alternator connections. with voltmeter and car at rest try battery voltage, as this is (i assume) new battery, it should show above 13v reading. now, start the car and check voltage at idle, it should be same or slighty higher than original reading, now, press accellerator to about 1500 to 2000rpm, reading shuld be higher, in range between 13.6v up to 14.4v, if reading is lower, your alternator is not charging! if description and voltages are correct,
remove battery from the car, leave for 24hrs and then measure voltage (within 0.1 of the volt minimum) make note of the reading, wait for 24hrs and measure again, if there was no drop in voltage, this meant that battery is ok as well.
this will point to either, your voltage regulator or leak somewhere in installation draining the power from the battery. check all possible terminals, especialloy under the dashboard on driver side and close to console on passenger side. check boot lights and sensors.
hope this will help you - do not forget to vote if you find this info useful.

Stecorbett:
May I suggest that you drive your car to one of the major auto stores and they can and will check your alternator for you to make sure it is good/bad.These places like AutoZone do this all the time. They do not charge for the check out. (Of course they are hoping that if you need a part you will buy it from them.
One other suggestion. If you do need a new alternator, get a rebuilt one. It is cheaper and most always comes with a warranty.
Hope this helps Good luck Loringh PS please take a moment to give me a rating

Battery light is on and battery is not holding the charge because you have at lest one cell damaged
because of accidental short-circuits between the battery terminal. So most probably you need to get new one (in Sears starts from $49,99) For fuses location follow this link please
Good Luck

Remove power to all aftermarket components, if you know how to use a multi-meter connect to power source inside vehicle.. Drive normal, if voltage drops below 12v while driving, it is faulty alternator. If bat light comes on and voltage is above 12v the plug on the alternator might be correded and throwing faulty light, or bad ground in gauge cluster...
SOURCE: when car is off the brake light stayed on and now the battery is dead.
check the breaklight switch it might be stuck its on the top of the break pedal...
