Hey I have a 1997 Audi a6 quattro base and when I start the car it won't go into any gear. No drive neutral or reverse. But for some reason when I turn the car off it allows me to put it in neutral then sometimes it let me put the car in drive? Can you tell me what could be wrong?

Run the fault codes and look for problems with the TCM or torque converter clutch servo/solenoid.

SOURCE: Oil questions for 2003 Audi A6 Quattro

oil type is either 5W-30W or 10W-30W depending how cold your climate is, as far as having the car properly taken care of, the Audi dealer is the best option, they have all the proper tools and service info needed to keep the car in top running condition.

Unless your shade tree mechanic is an Audi expert, go to the dealer who has all the books and diagrams that tell the tech exactly where to look. The other guy may want to replace something just to troubleshoot and the factory tech should know exactly what to replace or which plug is loose.

SOURCE: starting problem on my audi a6 2.8 quattro,,, i need help

Sounds like the gas presser valve or weak fuel pump. When it dose it again turn the switch on and leave it on for about 3 mins. and see if it will start. If it dose I would say the pump is weak.

SOURCE: Oil level problem with 2005 Audi A6 3.0 TDI Diesel Quattro

My 2005 A4 3.0 convertible audi is not a diesel, but I had a similar experience with a low oil signal going on and after checking the oil, which was sufficient, and replacing the dipstick, the light did not come back on until a subsequent trip. The light usualIy went on when I was close to the needing an oil change. I've had the car, a used one, for about two years, and the oil light minimum signal started behaving like yours early. About a week ago the oil pressure warning light came on. I don't know if there's a relationship, but if there is be careful. Audis of our vintage have a problem with sludge build up that damages the oil pump, which is a costly item. If you drive the car with low oil pressure you may seriously/fatally damage the car. I don't know if the sludge, if that's what you have, can be cleaned out, but I'd do it if it can be. My mechanic advised me to trade the car to a dealer rather than fix it. Hope you have better luck!

More than likely the stater motor is knackered, but if it's a manual drive you should be able to push start,in second gear.

My car shifts into gear then revs really high with no acceleration i have a 2001 audi a6 quattro... what does this mean? It reversed fine.

Likely the transmission has bands or clutch packs failing. Reverse is often unaffected. Have vehicle scanned and read the codes. You will likely have drive train codes in the P1700 and up range.

This is a manual transmission? If so the clutch probably needs to be replaced. When you say "VIOLENTLY" what is going on, what is the road speed, what are the RPMs at? The more specific information the better. And this problem ONLY occurs between gear changes, right? The other times, everything is normal?
