My 2001 Tahoe ran fine going to work. When I got off work, I started it up and it ran for 20 seconds then shut off. started again and started to go home. It jerked twice then ran 100 yards then shut off. would not start. towed it and two day later it started then backfired then shut off. unable to start it. Replaced fuel pressure regulator, fuel pump relay. fuses are good. I some time hear the fuel pump prime but does not start. turns over but does not start. Brought fuel filt er but not installed. any thought?

Check the fuel pressure. Should be around 50 pounds. Low fuel pressure can cause all the problems you described.

Check the crank position sensor. Also it could be as simple as a bad coil or coil wire. It definitely sounds electrical if you hear fuel pump priming. Also check distributor cap and rotor. Hope this helps

I have had battery and alternator checked, both are good. Battery was dead, jumped car, started and ran fine. Drove 30 minutes, shut off and sat for 2 hours. Started fine again, just went to gas station...

Most likely you have a bad battery. The second option is that you have a faulty wiring and there is a constant load that takes a lot of power, but it does not make a short circuit. Check the electrical relays, maybe it's in them.

My 2001 tahoe dies while idling in park. After waiting over night it started and ran fine until allowed to idle in park for a short time. This a 2001 Chevy Tahoe with a 5.3 liter engine and 160,000 miles.

If the only problem is idle and it runs grat above ide then the most likely component is the Idle Air Control valve. This is providing you have no codes stored indicating something else.

Mass air and throttle position

sounds to me like your having a air leak... my hose on my tahoe had a tiny pin leak in it and it did the same thing... check the small hose that goes from the air filter to the head of the motor... that was where mine was if not, check your o2 censor...
