I doubt changing the oil will make any difference.
The warning light is telling you the oil pressure is low, or the switch is failing.

Check your radiator hoses first, but it sounds like your water pump needs to be replaced.

The oil pressure warning light comes on to warn the driver the oil pressure in the engine has dropped below 10psi.
The reason could be the engine is low on oil, or there is a problem with the oil pump or other internal engine component.
The oil pressure switch could also be faulty.

We had an issue with our 2005 PT Cruiser. The check engine light came on and had trouble starting. Once it did start it would buck and sputter. I did some research on the web and found similar problems. From what i found it is the cam shaft sensor. This happened yesterday. We are getting it checked today. I won't go as far as to tell you this is exactly what it is, but it is a good place to start. Hope this helps!

Adding engine oil you said no visible leak.
Your engine has oil consumption valve ga-ides worn out also when the piston rings worn out oil passes through in to the combustion ch amer.

You want to resolve the problem and you stop to adding engine oil do your engine ova howling means new piston with piston rings oil pump and engine bearing new valve guide then your engine is new no more oil to add.

How is the oil pressure or low oil. Did the car over heat is so you may have to replace the oil pressure sensor.

This is the pressure light, nothing to do with the oil needing to be being changed, you have low oil pressure being indicated, this will destroy the engine if the light is really indicating low oil pressure, have the oil pressure tested with a mechanical test guage at a shop, if the oil pressure is ok then replace the oil pressure light sending unit.

It is important to check teh oil. Low oil means low oil pressure and the car will not start. Try that good luck
