SOURCE: oil pressure has dropped to

Better have it looked after, and yes there is a test for oil pump pressure.

I had the same thing happen and one of the rocker arms didn't have the oil hole in it, changed it and works great.

SOURCE: Have a 2009 Yukon 5.3 motor it has a lifter tick at startup sometimes really loud sometimes not is there a service bulletin. It has AFM lifters I think that has something to do with it.

I have cured just a few using a real AC Delco filter and synthetic 5w-30 oil. GM recommends using only 5w-30 oil in your engine because other weights can cause air to get into the lifters during start up and cause lifter noise.

My 95 tahoe has an occasional ticking noise, loss of oil pressure at idle and loss of power

Prognosis is really bad, hate to tell you. Ticking comes from the valve lifters, losing lubrication due to lack of pressure and running dry. At redlights, when revs are at idle, oil pressure drops a lot, and engine really suffers. Have the vehicle taken immediately to a shop for proper diagnose and to see if engine can still be saved. The loss of power comes from the valves not actuating properly. Hydraulic lifters need oil at a decent pressure to "charge" , and if not charged, they will stay compressed, ruining valve lifting operation.

2009 Ford Flex when started first thing on a cold morning it ticks/knocs really really loud, once it warms up the ticking goes away to a very light tick. The dealership ruled out an exhaust manifold leak....

It does sound like a valve lifter problem to me also. It should be covered under warranty. It's a mechanical failure of a component of the drivetrain. Ask them to show you the specific exclusion if they say it's not a warranty problem.Powertrain warranty is 60 months/60,000 miles ( which ever comes first).

I got my 97 infiniti from my former boss who sold it to me knowing it had lifter problems. Now my lifters are really really loud and the car will barely get out of first gear. once i get past 20 mph it...

This requires some serious work which will involve removing certain valvetrain components in order to remove and replace your lifters. Since it would be virtually impossible to identify a faulty lifter when disassembled any shop or dealer will advise you to replace all of them. Other parts/gaskets will also be needed for this repair as well. This could cost into the thousands of dollar range. I would call around for quotes. Your hydraulic lifter is basically a pressurized cylinder which a pushrod, plunger, oil chamber, check valve and a spring. Most of the time dirt or grit in your motor oil can block the oil passage way of the lifter and with no oil in the chamber you'll get a ticking noise which can get louder and sometimes even go away. No oil will definately cause it to wear out quickly. Your lifters are part of the system that opens/closes your intake/exhaust valves. You can try this method in the mean time by using a motor flush and changing your oil as recommended or change your oil and use 20% atf in your oil mixture (example 4qts motor oil 1qt atf) and then flush and change it in about 1000 miles. This may or may not help. If it does it saved you a fortune.

Ticking Noise at Startup

Possibly a leaking hydraulic lifter. They can leak down while engine isn't running and then make a ticking noise for a while on startup. If it takes 10-15 minutes to go away, it is more likely to be a loose tappet which needs adjusting.

Motor ticks

Lifters sound like they are bleeding down. Try changing the oil with a multi viscosity oil. chk oil Pressure. If lifters are over adjusted the lifters can't pump up properly or retain the oil properly

Loud ticking noise on startup

I would have you oil pressure checked. The oil pump or bearings could be going out. The lifter noise on this car usually will go away faster then 5 minutes. I think the noise is lasting a little to long.

1993 gmc jimmy 4.3 vortec loud ticking

pull your valve covers and look at you rocker arms see that none are lose if there isn't any lose then you may have a bad lifter witch once you pull your valve covers you will see rods on the far side of the rocker arms, at the bottom of every rod there is a lifter witch rides on the cam shaft. to fix this you have to tear down the top or the whole motor, good luck
