I have a direct short. The battery light has been on for over a year and during that year I had Firestone check the charging system on 2 occasions and was reported back as the alternator may be overcharging, according to the diagnostic printout. They told me battery was fine and the alternator was putting out yet the Battery light would not go out. The Battery light used to come on when the fist run of the day and approximately 10 minutes or so later it would go off for the remainder of that 1st run. After I got to my 1st destination and started up to go to the 2nd destination the Battery light came on and stayed on again for the next 10 minutes or so then would go off. That went on for a few months then it started staying on. Did this a few months until the other day when I tried to leave for the 1st destination of the day it was like totally dead. No nothing, no lights, no start; like totally dead. I tried connecting my battery charger and the charger has a "connected light" on it. It showed not connected. I said hum...so I got my voltmeter and checked voltage on the + and - and it showed 0.0 volts. I said hum...then I disconnected cables from the battery and checked voltage and got 6.4vdc. Then I connected the charger to the battery and then the charger showed it was connected and when I turned the charger on the voltage jumped up to 12.8vdc. Meanwhile while battery is charging I was trying to find the alternator fuse to see if it was blown, but the fuse terminal under the hood next to the battery location does not show a "CHG or ALT" on the schematic on the underside of the cover of the lid of the fuse terminal box. Can you help me locate this alternator fuse so I can check it before I have to turn to the alternator and a $425 bill to replace the alternator?
The fuse is under the hood in the main fuse center

Dennis, Please read full description...In that description I stated: "the fuse terminal under the hood next to the battery location does not show a "CHG or ALT" on the schematic on the underside of the cover of the fuse terminal box." Thank You for replying.
