When power steering hose replacement is required, follow these steps:

  1. With the engine stopped, remove the return hose at the power steering gear, and allow the fluid to drain from this hose into a drain pan. On some cars, the vehicle must be lifted on a hoist to replace the power steering hoses.
  2. Loosen and remove all hose fittings from the pump and steering gear.
  3. Remove all hose-to-chassis clips.
  4. Remove the hoses from the chassis, and cap the pump and steering fittings.
  5. If O-rings are used on the hose ends, install new O-rings. TRW steering gear cylinder lines have gaskets that are serviced as a unit. The old gasket must be pried out of the fittings in the housing before the new lines and gaskets are installed. Lubricate O-rings with power steering fluid.
  6. Reverse steps 1 through 4 to install the power steering hoses. Tighten all fittings to the manufacturer's specified torque. Be sure all hose-to-chassis clips are in place. Do not position hoses where they rub on other components.
  7. Fill the pump reservoir to the full mark with the manufacturer's recommended fluid. Bleed air from the power steering system. Check the fluid level in the reservoir and add fluid as required.

SOURCE: 96 Ford Explorer squeaks when steering. Power

Possibly dirt in the grooves of the belt. remove the belt and clean the grooves with a wire brush. If you get a lot of dirt and powder out of it clean it good and reinstall. Might work. did for mem on my 03 Sebring.

My 96 ford econoline van will not start no power, brand new battery. power is being drawn to the distribution block

Check the master electrical ignition switch mounted on the steering Colum. It sounds like the contacts have burned out. You will have to lower the steering to gain access to it. It is not the key switch.

Is there a separate radiator for tr coolant lines

Yes, its underneath the main radiator. You'll see it if you look through the 2 large ovals (96-97) or large open area (98-99) on the front bumper. Large tube like one without fins attached. One with fins is for power steering.

96 Ram V6, changed the power steering pump and now can't get the belt to line up, fraying on the outside edg.

Hopefully, you did not install the pulley on the pump upside-down. (I have seen this happen before) Otherwise, the end of the pump shaft should be flush with the flange on the pulley. If it is off just a little one way or the other, it can cause fraying and severe belt noise.

Hi pressure line leaking on bottom side of power steering pump on 96 windstar. not sure if it's the discharge or return side. it is the line that is fitted to the pump with a clamp and goes down into a...

a pressure line on a power steering pump would be blasting the fluid out,, not just a small leak,, and with power steering hoses, your b est best is to replace the line as factory specs call for,, I have a honda that for some unknown reason they decided the PS hose needed to go all the way around the back of the motor, and back within 8 inches of where it came from to the steering arm,, silly I know, But that way its costs 10 times as much ,

My belt is squealing really bad on my 96 Ford Probe SE 2.0 liter, i replaced the power steering pump, the power steering belt and it is still squealing. Is it a pulley?

Often these vehicles have a spring loaded tensioner, which you would have released to replace the belt. When the spring in the tensioner gets weak, causes a squeak.

96 ford contour poer steering fluid

Open the hood and look at the very back corner (passenger side) of the engine compartment, there will be a white plastic bottle with a black thread on lid. This is where the power steering fluid goes. The bottle has marks on the side of it to indicate how far to fill if needed.
