Oil in coolant problems on my 2001 cadillac catera?

Car overheated and I replaced the radiator. Was going to get an oil change when I was told my head gaskets were blown. The reservior is filled with brown mucky substance and the oil is the same. I'm not adding much water or coolant but adding alot of oil. Now I'm checking my options.

You have a leak in the engine allowing coolant to get in the engine or oil to get in radiator. Head gasket would be best guess. Pull spark plugs you will see one that looks different from the rest maybe 2 that is bad head gasket.

THIS IS WHY YOU SHOULD PAY ATTENTION TO YOUR GAUGES. OVERHEATING IS THE NUMBER ONE CAUSE OF HEAD OR GASKET FAILURE. THERE IS NO QUICK FIX NOW. THE DAMAGE IS DONE.IT IS TIME FOR A HEAD JOB AT THE VERY LEAST. WHEN WATER AND OIL MIX THE OIL LOSES ITS LUBRICATING ABILITY AND YOU MAY HAVE CAUSED FURTHER SEVERE ENGINE DAMAGE. HATE TO BE THE BEARER OF BAD NEWS, GOOD LUCK BILL

Sounds like the head-gasket blew and allowed oil into the coolant and coolant into the oil. Unfortunately, it's time for a tear-down and rebuild of the engine.

1998 Cadillac Seville SLS with overheating problem. Head gaskets repaired!! cost me 4K, all hoses checked and look good, belts replaced etc etc. Still overheats!! The cooling system (heating/AC) is acting...

did you change your thermostats there is one on the motor and on radiator. i have a toyota and was told my motor was shot it was overheating and loosing coolant my prob was water pump and the radiator filler pipe had a pin hole in it. if you do not have water in your oil or oil in the rad then it is probabnly not the head . also if the fin on your radiator are bent you may need too change radiator..Also your radiator fan may not be working, you can hook direct or buy a new fan relay sensor that plugs in at the bottom of raiator, you can check this by getting motor hot and see if fan kicks on

Engine runs rough also how can you check to see whether if i have a blown head gasket. it also has no fans running to cool the coolant

Sounds like the overheating condition has blown the head gasket, if compression or oil/antifreeze mixing is evident.

Running an engine with no fan to cool the radiator is a common cause of blown head gaskets. yes.

Cant find thermostat

Most likely the heat warped the head allowing the head gasket to blow out. The head will have to be removed and checked out.

My 2000 Cadillac Catera is has water mixed with

Oil cooler under the intake plenum at rear top of engine is either bad or the gasket is gone. If you take oil filler cap off, you will see the paste on the cap. Are you going through coolant every so often?

Same as on my wife's 01.

Where are the hoses that run to radiator to cooling system located? send diagram. Oil went into water tank on 1998 cadillac catera

I don't have a diagram, but your problem is the oil cooler underneath the intake on top of the engine. Remove the intake, and the cooler is right there in between the heads. Easy to change once you get the intake off. This is a VERY common problem on Cateras, and the symptom of it is oil in your coolant. I have a 1998 Catera and had the same issue.

2001 cadillac catera: oil in coolant?

The Problem, My friend, is a leaking oil cooler. this item is mounted, inside the engine, under the intake manifold. The cooler or the connections are bad. Coolant flows through the cooler, if it brakes then the oil will contaminate your coolant and make a mess.!! Have it checked. Must times is the seals at the pipe to cooler flange connector. will need new seals.. Hope this helps.
