No it won't. the low oil sensor will, not the pressure. But low oil pressure will stop an engine quickly. No oil, no bearing lubrication. It will lock up.

On many cars, yes. Without more information about your vehicle, I can't tell you more than that.

It idles when stopping what causes the problem it was running well this morning I checked the oil it was every low it's a 2001 ford escape

First, never let your oil get old, dirty or VERY LOW.
You mean that it stops running when you slow to a stop? Or what do you mean?
What engine? It might be running badly BECAUSE of the low oil pressure it senses. You can get the codes run on it at Auto Zone.

The low oil pressure warning lamp will illuminate anytime the ignition switch is turned to the ON position without the engine running. When the engine is running, the light also illuminates if the engine oil pressure drops below a safe oil pressure level. To test the system, perform the following:
If the oil pressure light does not work, perform the following:
  1. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position.
  2. If the lamp does not light, check for a broken or disconnected wire around the engine and oil pressure sending unit switch.
  3. If the wire at the connector checks out OK, pull the connector loose from the switch and, with a jumper wire, ground the connector to the engine.
  4. With the ignition switch turned to the ON position, check the warning lamp. If the lamp lights, make sure the oil pressure switch is properly grounded in the cylinder block, and if so replace the oil pressure switch. If the lamp still fails to light, check for a burned out lamp or disconnected socket in the instrument cluster.
To diagnose an oil pressure light that stays on, perform the following:
  1. Check the engine oil level and top off as necessary. If the engine was 2 or more quarts low on oil, test start the engine after topping off the oil level and recheck the oil pressure light operation. If the light stays on, stop the engine immediately and go to the next step.
  2. Disconnect the wire at the sending unit, then turn the ignition switch to theON position. If the light remains on, check the wire from the sending unit to the gauge for being shorted to ground and repair as necessary. If the light goes out, turn the ignition switch OFF and go to the next step.
  3. Replace the oil pressure sending switch with a known good switch.
  4. Start the engine and check the oil pressure light operation. If the light stays on with the engine running, stop the engine immediately to avoid severe engine damage until the cause of the problem can be determined.

WARNING
If the oil pressure light remains on while the engine is started, stop the engine immediately. Do not operate the engine until the cause of the problem can be determined. Operating an engine with low oil pressure will cause severe internal damage.

Possible causes for an oil pressure light to stay on are:

Pinched or grounded sensor wireDefective oil pressure sending unitRestricted or severely leaking oil filterExcessive internal engine bearing clearance.Insufficient or severely contaminated engine oilBlocked oil pump pickup screen or severely worn oil pump

Will oil pressure switch cause a no start condition.

Not as long as the fuel pump relay is functional.

Oil pressure low stop engine and check guage

Fist check oil level, the sensor is a pressure switch worked by oil pressure, hopefully the sensor has gone faulty. The oil pressure needs checking, if the oil pump or relief valve has gone faulty, the engine is being starved of lubrication and is causing internal damage. It is advisable NOT to run the engine till the pressure has been checked. (hope it's the sensor)

Sensor oiel what it does when he is not good

I think what was meant is the oil pressure sensor which is a pressure switch and indicates the pressure when the engine runs. This is very much critical as a low pressure will show up as an error- check engine /oil- and can shut off the ECM.
So if the pressure sensor is bad it will indicate or if the oil pressure is low it will be sensed to indicate for action.-- check oil ,oil filter or oil pump.

I have a 2002 jeep grand cherokee lerado with a 4.0 my oil pressure is normal when i drive but when i stop my pressure goes low

A low oil level will cause this. If the oil level is fine, then you need to have a mechanical gauge to verify the pressure is really low and that you don't have a bad oil pressure switch. You could try replacing the switch first if you don't want to put an oil pressure gauge in the vehicle. If the pressure is indeed low and the oil level is normal then replace the oil filter to see if that brings the pressure back up. If the pressure is still low, remove the oil pan to check the pick-up tube for debris. If it is clear of debris then you'll be needing to replace the oil pump. Another possible cause of low pressure is a damaged rod or main bearing and would require the engine to be rebuilt.

I have a 2006 impala. On the highway the dinging wont go off on the oil light. It says oil pressure low turn off engine but I changed oil today. The dinging just wont stop!! What's wrong??

Hi stevie, your Impala probably has a defective sensor, often called a "switch" that senses the oil pressure. The oil light and chime is a result from a false signal from the bad sensor.
But one cannot take a chance. If the sensor is acting properly, and pressure is low, it could really damage your engine to have low oil pressure and oil not pumping properly. Have it checked now. A new sensor should cost about 60 dollars & takes only a few minutes to install.

Good luck. i hope this helps. Please rate me a FixYa.

Problem with it is the oil light comes on when at a stop sign or at a red light but then goes off when you get going. But it's not leaking any oil, has had oil changes regularly

It's most likely one of two things: Your engine could be low enough on oil pressure when idling that the light is coming on for that exact reason or your oil pressure sensing switch could be faulty and misreading the actual oil pressure and erroneously turning on the light. The only real way to tell is to have someone remove the oil pressure sensing switch and temporarily install a mechanical test gauge in its place to check the actual oil pressure available. If it's low then there is an internal engine problem of some sort. If the pressure is about 10 psi or higher at an idle and 30 psi plus at 2500 rpm then your sender is at fault.

2001 ford escape.. oil light comes on when at a stop and in drive. when i give it the gas the light turns off. i checked my oil, brake, coolant and tranny fliuds and are all fine????? no funny sounds????

this light is indicating your engine has low oil pressure sensed at idle, have the oil pressure checked with a special mechanical oil gauge, if the oil pressure checks ok then just replace the oil pressure sending unit, do this ASAP, if u do really have low pressure u can damage the engine bearings, a very expensive fix.

WARNING MESSAGE sTOP: OIL PRESSURE ...wHAT IS

Check your oil, it may be low if not the oil pressure needs checked. The sending switch could be bad or you have low oil pressure. If you have low oil pressure have it fixed ASAP. The loss of oil pressure can cause severe engine damage.
