Do you have the four cylinder or the six cylinder? The six cylinder has 2 camshaft sensors - one for each camshaft. If you are still getting the code, you may have replaced the wrong one.

i have a six 3.0 h6 but autozone says i only have one sensor

  • Terry Hair Jan 18, 2015

Here is the Autozone oage for the 3.0 six cylinder. There is only one part number listed for the cam sensor, but if you look in the details below the picture it says quantity required is 2.

Lisa - Found a picture of the crank and cam sensors, Crack sensor in center of pictire - cam sensors on the top right and left.

  • Terry Hair Jan 18, 2015

Picture is oriented looking at the rear of the engine with the transmission removed

  • Terry Hair Jan 18, 2015

Change 2 - The picture above is wrong...sorry Have new pictures showing cam sensors. There is one on the intake cam and one on the exhaustr cam.

This is actually an easy swap out. Remove the electrical connection, remove the retaining bolt and pull out old one. I believe the sensor is located in the front passenger side of the engine on this particular model.

I replaced the Cam Shaft Sensor. I also cleaned the Throttle Body with carb cleaner. I had my wife hold down the accelerator, while running I sprayed down the throttle plate and the entire area around it. Now my TB finally idles smoothly, and it hasn't died yet!! Check engine light is gone and I passed the emissions test!! Yea!!!

change the crankshaft positon sensor in the rear of the engine above the oilfilter. Also check the wiring to this sensor, they have a problem shorting out. You have to change the camshaft and crankshaft sensors at the same time. Make sure you give your car a major tune up. Did you check yor starter?.........runjoe

OK, you have a code PO341 which means their is a problem with the signal the ECU is receiving from the cam sensor. It does not necessarily mean the sensor is bad. It can be one of these things.
1. Cam sensor wiring routed too close to spark plug wiring (causing interference) 2. Poor wiring connection at cam sensor 3. Poor wiring connection at PCM 4. Bad cam sensor 5. Damaged reluctor wheel You replaced the cam sensor and the problem is still there so we can assume that a defective cam sensor was not the problem. Do this.
1. Check that the wiring isn't routed too close to any secondary ignition components (coil, spark plug wires, etc.) 2. Visually inspect the wiring at the sensor for any burn marks, discoloration indicative of melting or chafing 3. Visually inspect the reluctor wheel through the cam sensor port (if possible) for any missing teeth or any damage 4. If reluctor isn't visible from outside the engine, visual test can only be done by removing cam shaft or intake manifold (depending on engine design)

Code PO340 bad camshaft sensor. I replaced the sensor and i the car still wont start. I still get the same code and the car will not start.

Trevor: Alittle known fact is that most Chrysler cars do not need a full OBD code reader! By performing the "Key-Dance" you can show the codes on the odometer without any reader! Look for info on how to read the codes with the ignition key.

On your problem, you need to check the wiring and connectors, and also check the proper cams and belt timing, as it is difficult but sometimes an out of timing (one tooth only) misalignment can make the car not to start.

1999 dakota with a 5.2 motor.I can drive it any where from 5 min to an hour and the truck shuts down.Sometimes it starts back up and other times it just cranks over, but starts the next day. When it shuts...

It is most likely one of two issues. Either the Camshaft sensor, or the Crankshaft sensor. Neither is too expensive nor too hard to replace. Try the Cam Sensor first. The 5.2L seems to have these more often. The 2.5L has the same problem, but it's usually the Crank Sensor.

2002 ram 1500 4.7 liter no start

Replace your camshaft sensor and check for a vacuum leak in your intake manifold, mostly towards the back. If you have a leak it will give false readings on your code reader. My truck was doing the same thing and we found the endcap on the maifold had blown off after a back-fire. We reglued the endcap and replaced crank and camshaft sensor and the truck runs better than it ever has!!! GOOD LUCK!!!!
