Replacing head gasket, no torque settings or sequence in the gasket set

havent seen one of these in many a year ,if a turbo and iron head which i seeem to recall it is then i seem to remember 120lbs ,if a alloy head then 70lbs

ok its belt driven ok the 2.8,3.1,4jb1 and the 4jg2 carrys the belt

Here is a picture of torque pattern for a 2200 2.2L
Tighten the cylinder head bolts in 2-3 steps in the proper sequence. The final torque specification is 59-64 ft. lbs. (80-86 Nm).

This is not necessarily specific for your car but as a general rule of thumb, if you start in the middle of the head and work your way out, torque down to 30 ft/lb first and then a quarter of a turn on second pass. Specific instructions often come with a new head gasket.

First torque value is 58 ft lbs.....then final torgue is 72 ft lbs.

BMW cylinder torque setting all models

According to my service manual as follows.

Cyl head to engine block (torx e12 M10 bolts)

Stage 1 30nm (22 ft – lb)
Stage 2 + 90 degrees
Stage 3 + 90 degrees

Cyl head to lower timing chain cover 10nm (89in – lb)

The tightening sequence is from inside to outside crossover as normal. Loosening sequence is from outside to inside crossover. Remember to set torque wrench at low setting and work gradually up through the whole sequence until you get the desired torque.
