If you have a timing problem have it diagnosed. It could be a crank sensor or the timing chain and/or gears that are causing the problem. Yes there are timing marks on the harmonic balancer and timing marks on the camshaft gears and the crank gear inside the timing cover. If you have replaced the crankshaft sensor and this is causing a timing issue, the mount is slotted and determines the distance from the the crankshaft which can alter the timing significantly. I would have the problem diagnosed and fixed by a professional. The 3.8 litre engine is a powerful engine and incorrect timing can cause significant damage to this engine.
No the timing Marks are on the timing gears on the end of the crank shaft and the cam shaft. Also on the harmonic balancer on the end of the crankshaft and the timing chain cover.
The crankshaft doesn't. But the gear that goes on it does. It is a small triangle or a dot.
OK I changed the crankshaft sensor which is behind the harmonic balancer and putting it back together I got #1 piston up on compression stroke wondering where my marks will b at can u help with that
If all you did was replace the sensor, Don't worry about the marks. The balancer only goes on one way. The timing marks have to do with replacing the timing belt and related parts..
Thank u was just wondering cause am not sure if it jumped a tooth out of time. Thank u for helping

Install a retaining clip on the tensioner to hold plunger IN during installation.
marking timing chain
Position the crankshaft using the special tool. Then remove the tool.
Crankshaft special tool positioning
Install the crankshaft sprocket with flange facing forward.
Crankshaft sprocket timing mark
Position the left timing chain on the camshaft sprocket. The timing mark on the camshaft sprocket must be aligned between the 2 copper (or marked) chain links.
Left camshaft sprocket timing mark
Position lower end of right (outer) timing chain on the crankshaft sprocket. Align the copper (or marked) chain link with the timing mark on the outer flange of the crankshaft pulley.
Right camshaft sprocket timing mark
Align the chalk mark on the balance shaft with the camshaft timing mark.
