Try using a screw driver to reach the hood release under the hood. You may need to pry the hood up a little to reach it. The electronic release is there as a secondary latch for safety. You can still open it up if you can get to the manual release.

Thank you i will try that. Could the hood just be frozen shut because of it being so cold out?

  • kingtwomp Jan 08, 2015

That could definitely be the issue. In cold weather any exposed cables can get frozen and stuck. That's why its recommended not to use the emergency brake when its super cold out. Best of luck!

Front bonnet catch wont release fully,i pull lever from inside and it releases bonnet just a couple inch, then when try to lift bonnet up it wont open. regards mike, and thanks in advance

There is another lever at the front of the car that you need to release too. This is to prevent the hood flying open if you accidentally pull the release while driving. After you release the latch inside the car, go to the front of the car, near the Audi rings in the center of the grill there is a small black tab that pops out. Pull up on it and the hood will open. Let us know if that worked.

2008 Mitsubishi release cable for Hood not working. When pulling on release inside car, the hood does not pop open to reach under and release the safety latch

I have a similar problem on my 2006 VW Passat.

I'm able to open the hood two ways:
1) ask someone to hold onto the lever inside the car while you try to lift the hood to the point where you can use the unlatch button and open the hood fully.

2) Pull the lever completely open in the car and try to find a thick screwdriver or some thick paper folded up to wedge next to the lever to hold it open while you get out and try to lift the hood to the point where you can use the unlatch button and open the hood completely.

Other than this finding a service manual or tutorial online about how to pull out whatever trim or interior covers you would need to replace the cable fully. There should be a specific replacement guide for this item since I'm sure it happens to car's at least semi-regularly

How do you open a mazda 6 hood? I try the release inside the car but the hood wont open, like its still locked. Is there some kind of switch to pull at the front of the car after i pull the lever in the...

the hood should pull up about 2 inches after pulling hood release in vehicle..then there will be one more locking mech. you will need to unlatch..you should be able to feel it in the center of hood..after the hood raises 2 inches..if it does not raise you need a lube service on your latch..you can do it your self ..might need to give the center of the hood a little tug or bump first to release..then wd40 and white grease will loosen it up so you can open and close it about 5 more times to make sure its nice and free

The inside hood release wire pulled out but it wont spring back

You need to replace the hood release mechanism. You can access the hood release from under the car - you'll need access to a pit though. Good luck

Hood release wont engage

The hood bumpers are worn or misaligned. After pul;ling the vever, push at one end of the hoods front section as if your trying to rattle it. Most the time they do release. If it doesn't try the oposite side this way. Upon opening it if possible work the latch manually to see if it does work. If it does use lubraplate lithiuim grease on all movable parts

Is there any part of the cable inside the cabin that you can pull with a pair of pliers? I suggest that you try that. You may need to disassemble it from the pull handle to make that work.
