First thing to try is clean the throttle body plate and bore, this fixes at least 75% of stalling problems with GM products

Robin, if you smell gas you need to have that checked now!!! A fuel leak can result in a fire. Also check for engine codes and vacuum leaks The idle air control valve may be causing problems Hope this helps ,Bill

A lot of GM vehicles experience bad fuel pressure regulators. Sometimes they leak internally, failing to keep fuel pressure where it should be, other times they can leak externally and drip gas. This may be what you're experiencing. Have someone check the fuel pressure regulator (not an expensive part) and generally not to hard to change depending on where its located on your car and which of the three available engines your car has (a four cylinder or one of two V6s).

Thanx so much this was Very helpful. It must be internal because I dont see anything in my driveway.

Had the same problem but my car was tampered with. The wires leading to the braking regulator/manifold were severed. It acted exactly the same way yours did. Brake manifold/regulator.

When you put the jumper cables on, put the key in the drivers door lock and unlock the door to deactivate the factory alarm.

SOURCE: 1997 pontiac won't stay on

i had the same prob. w my 97 grand am. i bought a new ignition switch and installed it...after installing you have to reset the theft system. all you have to do to reset is turn the key far enough for it to bump the motor over then leave the key in the run position for about ten to twenty minutes...might hook bat. to charger cause if it dies in process you have to start all over...the theft light will either blink then stay on or go out completly....

SOURCE: starts and runs 3-5 seconds and shuts down

Sounds like your security system is shutting the car down. You should be able to leave the key on for 15 minutes and it will reset itself. Make sure you are using factory keys, and they are in good condition.

My car is a 2002 Pontiac Grand am and started to over heat every time i drive it what could it be i replaced the thermostat still over heats can any one help?

if it overheats at freeway speed, its a dirty radiator(flushing it usually don't help but you can try) If it overheats it traffic, then it is the automatic radiator fan(usually driven by electric motor). On some ocation an overheating is caused by retarded timing, but very unlikely on your vehicle since it is computerized.

My 2002 Grand am is have a passlock problem. The

I discovered the hard way- ($85.00 later) Step 1: turn key to "on" position. step 2: open driver door. (security light should be flashing on and off) step 3: wait ten minutes with key in "on position and driver door open. step 4: when 10 minutes is up-(youll know-because security light will have stoped flashing after 10 minutes) close driver door ,turn key to "off" position, then turn key "on" to start. drives me crazy!! I have to do it to mine sometimes 2-5 times a day! GM doesnt have a fuel reset button etc. like fords do.

2002 Pontiac Grand prix wont start; unable to remove key

On many cars, if the battery is dead, it locks the key in the ignition. Put a battery charger on the car or replace the battery and give it a shot.

Good luck.
