Radiator drain plug ford expedition 1999
Safety: goggles, gloves, long sleeves (to avoid burns), engine cooled,
battery disconnected, leave key out of ignition, block wheels so the
truck does not move.
Needs: 50/50 radiator/coolant ford specific -two large bottles, a
adjustable wrench, bucket that fits under your truck and can hold eight
quarts.
first disconnect the negative wire to the battery, then the possitive.
Negative is the one nearest to the passanger dashboard. Wait two minutes
before doing any work on the 1999 ford expedition. This time frame
allows the electronic module supply to be depleted. In other words
disarming the airbag. This is a safety precaution and should be done
every time you work on your vehicle.
The drain plug for the ford 1999 expedition is located under vehicle. Lay down, facing up, under the passenger side inner wheel. Move the black wheel cover to the side (the part
that's located at about two o'clock) look for a white screw. It
looks like white plastic piece. It's about 2-3 inches long.
Get your pan ready for about six quarts of radiator fluid to drain from
it. I would suggest you get a hose of some sort to place over the screw
for drainage direction, otherwise it will hit the frame and spray. Once
you have everything in place, start slowly unscrewing it. This way you
can control the flow. Besure to have two large bottles of 50/50
radiator/coolant on hand. You will be refilling it with new fluid. Never
re-use the old. I say 50/50 because with this yrs 1999 tend to rust
quick. If you use water besure it's distilled.
Once it is completely drained. Flush the system using one of the 50/50 bottles. Do not use water. Water corrodes in the 1999's. When you flush it,let it drain all out. Screw plug back in, and begin filling your radiator. Reconnect the battery. You should pour in half the reserve bottle, run engine so that it gets into the radiator -with cap on- for a few minutes ****besure to turn your radio on and the heat on max. For some reason the radio is part of this. Now you can fill up to the max line on the reserve bottle. You are done. Take your truck for a ride to reprogram the trucks driving memory. You will have to set your clock and radio stations too.
Once you come back from your ride, recheck the fluids and check for leaks.
