If the alternator recently went out, there is a good chance you blew the fusable ink to your alternator. Look under the hood for your under-hood fuse box. One of them will be marked alternator, charging, or system electrical. It is a 30A plastic fuse (I think, it could be 50). It will be marked by the top side of the fuse box, there should be a fuse map on the plastic box holding the fuses. Check these with a DMM (or visual check works I guess). If one of them is bad, this is your problem. The car will not charge the battery of the fuse is blown.

Jump start the car and measure with a voltmeter the voltage accross the battery. It should read 13.7 volts or greater with the engine running.if it doesn't it's the alternator or the voltage regulator. If it reads normal 13.7 or greater then measure the voltage accross the battery with the engine off. It should be 12 volts or slightly higher. If those readings are nominal then there is something that is drawing oower when the car is turned off, could be a light or some other short in the electrical system. If you have anything connected to AUX power make sure the voltage is zero volts with the engine off..

Why does my car's battery keep on continuing to need to be recharged?

The battery needs to be replaced or the alternator is bad. I would try to replace the battery in your car first to see if that fixes the problem. If our car is still not starting up or if the battery keeps on needing to be recharge then the alternator is bad and should be replaced.

What would cause black soot /smoke around alternator on 04 pacifica and then it not start with fully charged battery?

The battery gives the voltage necessary to start the vehicle, then after it is started the alternator will spin off the accessory belt and recharge the battery for the next startup. If your alternator was bad the vehicle would start but turn off shortly after driving a few miles. After making sure the battery is charge, clean the battery terminals and make sure they're tightly connected to the battery. If the engine doesnt turn over, it may be your starter. The alternator on the Pacificas arent really hard to take off since theyre located on the top,so if you're second guessing its the alternator, then just release the belt tensioner pulley and loosen the alternator bolts and have it tested at your local auto parts store. Good luck

My Honda Accord wont start even with a jump. The lights come on but wont turn over. No click, no sound, no nothing

IT's those short drives that burn down a battery! The starting of an engine requires mucho electric to get it running. The alternator then charges the battery, but slowly! If you also have the lights and stereo on it is even slower. Get the battery FULLY charged with a commercial battery charger. Then check to see if the alternator is charging up the battery after you start it. If not, replace the alternator. If the battery dies overnight or in a few days...replace the battery.

I have a 2006 tribute that won't start, sometimes. The battery has been replaced and the alternator is not putting out quite the correct voltage but isn't really bad yet I don't think. It&

You need to replace the alternator, it may be charging the battery enough to start the vehicle for a few days, but once the battery runs low, it cant recharge the battery, would have the alternator tested, but i'm pretty sure that is your problem. Hope this helps...

My cadillac deville has no power after sitting for a few days. i need a jump to get it started. why is that

Replace the alternator. Once the battery dies, the alternator should still have a little bit of power left in it, if your car isn't starting after it's been jumped, chances are that the alternator is shorted out. Replace the alternator, and also recharge your battery. Check your battery terminals for signs of corrosion, and clean it off with a scrubbie and a mix of water and baking soda.

Car does not start.

Yes, I would have the battery fully charged and load tested. Most local parts stores can test it for you. Takes a hour or so.

Got a low votage msg couple of weeks ago and replaced the battery. Got the same msg a few weeks later; went away for a couple of days and when I came back car would not start. Took it to Pep Boys to run...

If the battery is not recharging while the car is running, bad connection between alternator and battery. If it is dying while sitting, but charging while running, something is draining it. What? Who knows. It could be anything from a clock on the radio to an engine fan that doesn't stop. Look for anything electrical that is on when the car isn't. ANYTHING. Even the smallest light can pull more juice than you'd expect. Good luck.

1989 Ford F250 7.3L Diesel. Bat light came on then smoked the VR

Thats a guessing game, but first, if the battery light was on, that means no alternator output. So recharge the batteries and be sure they are good, Then replace the alternator. If the batteries and the alt are good, and the battery light is off, then all should be OK.

My subaru wont start...no juice...

No. You have a Bad Connection with the Battery and the Battery Cables. Remove the Battery Cables, Get a Can of Coca Cola and pour onto the Ends of the Wires that Connect to the Battery. They should Fizzle like Hydrogen Peroxide. This will eat away the Corrossion on them. Replace the Battery Terminals and Tighten. Also, Check the Tension on your Belt. If it is even a Little loose it will not allow the Alternator to Recharge The Battery while Driving.
