GM had aproblem with the switch that is built into the latch assembly failing or breaking because it was made from plastic. replacement is the best repair and anyone with basic tools can perform this job. there are lots of after market companies that carry replacement latch assemblies. The 1st thing I would try is cleaning the latch with electrical cleaner from CRC and then spray with WD-40 or some other lite lube.

Check the operation of the latch while it's open. Maybe the latch accidentally got pushed into the locked position so it won't lock around the pin. Unlock the latch, then manually pull back the tabs.

you might try lubricating the trunk latch with a silicone spray or wd-40 and unlocking it with the key while it is open. There is a chance there is a small broken spring in the latch that is not pulling it over to full unlock position and when you tried to shut the trunk it is actually already in the locked position.

2010 Town & Country trunk won't shut
When you pull the trunk handle back towards yourself to open the trunk, it may be sticking in that position, so give the handle a tap to pop it back into its original position. Then shut the trunk and see if it has latched.

Any repair shop (body shop or auto repair shop) should be able to handle trunk repair. You may want to look through your local yellow pages. Have you tried spraying a lubricant into the latch assembly, sometimes it help to lube it and use a screw driver to flip latch/lock to locked position and then release with key or trunk release button several times. Rust is prone to jam locks and latches. Most local auto parts stores carry these latches in stock, and it is relatively easy to change out. Let me know if you need further help.

1996 Lincoln Town Car trunk motor won't shut off
under the trunk lip (directly where the latch goes into the lock jaws; remove the carpet so that you can see the side of the trunk latch; on the latch jaws (bottom) is a switch that contacts the latch (top) this switch is broken or, mis-aligned it opens (stops the trunk motor) when the latch contacts it.

The trunk won't latch shut. It has the interior trunk release and electronic release from keychain. Also has trunk lid pulldown.
Try this forum. I had the same problem and they were saying to take off the trunk release actuator. I did and it worked. Don't take the whole piece off of the trunk lid (although if you do, it's easy to put back on), but take the one piece (the actuator) off of the latch. I don't know anything about cars and I was able to do it. Not hard at all. Take a look at the forum:

There are three screws that holds the latch it may have move down a little during closing, you can loose these screws and pull the latch assy up and then tighten, this should allow the trunk to latch
