I had the same problem with my Kia 2001 Sportage, it would have cost me $575 for Kia to reprogram the fob, but instead I had no option but to have the entire alarm system removed, and stuck with the stock (factory) alarm.

But, if you want to release the immobilizer,,, shut all the doors, and lock the driver door with the key, this will in-turn enable to alarm, then unlock the driver door, which should disable the alarm and also disable the immobilizer.

When replacing the key fob battery there is no reprogramming required! If the key fob was working prior to the battery replacement then it would point to the contacts not being correct! Remove key fob battery and start again!

My 1998 kia sportage does not start, something is draining the battery, had the alternator, started and battery tested, all good. So what's draining the battery!

The #1 most common cause is lights being left on or lights coming on at night when the temperature drops. Lighted visors are a common problem.

try using the key to lock and unlock the drivers door, a lot of times that will reset it.

1999 kia sportage engine stopped while driving. now turns over but won't start

check the alternator, have a service shop like an auto parts store run a check, they can do it for free in some places. may also be your battery, can get cleaner and metal wire battery contact cleaner and you can also try putting some water into the battery in the area indicating where to put some water.
